3 Things I Learned in Science
June 8, 2010, 10:20 am

Every year, you learn different things and experience lots of new concepts in school. In science class, every quarter we would learn something different than the one before. We got the explore and go deep into the topic and figure out problems.

Here are three things I learned in Science this school year(:

1.) Photosynthesis and Respiration- the class did activities and was given a project to animate about the Photosynthesis and Respiration topic. I learned how carbon dioxide and water make oxygen and how oxygen and glucose makes carbon dioxide. I realized that we breath in the oxygen and exhale the carbon dioxide out.

2.) Antibacterial- The science teacher told us that hand sanitizer doesn’t completely help you wash your hands. You need to use soap and water before you eat and after you play with animals. We tested different antibacterials to see which one was the most effective against germs. Everyone got a lab partner and took dirty samples from different places in the school [ex. Toilet, bottom of a shoe, someone's ear, etc...]. We put them in a cup and observed and took picture of how successful the antibacterial was.

3.) The systems- I learned about the digestive system, circulatory system, respiratory system, and nervous system. I learned about how food travels through our body and what helps it do so, how blood travels through our body, how we breath and what happens during that, and the things that make us respond to things.

That Bundle of Styrofoam

My 3D Windows to the Soul

You can tell a lot from a bundle of styrofoam.

When I first heard about the 3D Windows to the Soul project, I thought, “man, we just finished the watercolor, now we’re making it 3D?!” I could just picture how much trouble it would be.

People can be wrong sometimes.

Art to me, is something that can be shared to the world and is something you can get much out of. Art is talent that builds inside of you and what makes the world. It takes the brains and the guts to think about the things you create and experimenting with different tools or styles. And this type of art/project, was something new for me.

I didn’t realize how much fun the 3D Windows to the Soul Project was until I learned that the class was actually going to spray paint it and glue words on it! For this project, everyone first needed to make their symbols have negative and positive space. Then, using cutting knives, we cut out our symbols on styrofoam and hot glued all the pieces together so they fitted. Next people went outside to the balcony wearing goggles and masks to spray paint their symbols. For some reason, my class was only allowed to use one color. I carefully selected a light shade of green because I thought the other colors were too common or un-like me. Finally, Mr. Maddock pulled out a hug box full of magazines where we used scissors to cut out words we could and find and stuck them on our 3D project.

My symbols I used are my life, my thoughts, and what I like. They represent me in many different ways. The words I chose to glue on my project meant a lot of things that happened in my life and also for what I love and the words I like to say. I’m very proud of my work even though it broke once because of the wind outside. But I fixed that up that best I could which told me that I can solve my own problems.

My favorite symbols is probably the dollar sign, because it actually didn’t turn out demented like the other ones. I experienced people sitting and breaking my symbols by accident and me re-doing it.

Even though my project didn’t turn out to be as creative and neat as the other ones, it still represents me and me only.

Artist Statement Research

What is an artist statement?

An artist statement is a reflection that artist write about their own artwork.

What is the purpose of an artist statement?

The purpose of an artist statement is for people that have interest in art to learn more about a piece of work or the artist.

How long should an artist statement be?

It doesn’t matter how long it is. It all depends on what kind of artist you are. Imagination can make you write an excessive amount, and someone that gets strait to the point would probably write less.

Who will be the extended audience of your artist’s statement?

My extended audience would be all my friends and my classmates.

What are five strategies artists can use to begin the process of writing an artist’s statement?

Some five strategies are:

- Writing thoughts down on paper first. Pre-writing can be useful in case you make a mistake.

- Looking up words. Finding different words in thesaurus or any other place can help you express your ideas more for your audience.

- Look at your art work. Looking at something that you’re writing about will help you get started because sometimes visual helps a lot

- Think about what your audience will like. If you write something boring, the people that read it will probably think it’s too lame. Think about what the people will enjoy to read.

- Decide on what you’re going to write about. Plan ahead and think about how you’re going to write about the piece of art work and in what format.

What is the best way for you to start your Windows to the Soul Sculpture artist statement?

The best way to start my Windows to the Soul artist statement is to look at my art work. I do things better by visual.

Okay, so I have decided to actually write a post on my blog that is not related to school.  In honor of Dorcas XD

hahaa.

China Alive is tomorrow. O_o wow. It came so fast. The only I’m looking forward to is the photography contest and the camping.

Well, maybe some sight seeing.

Meh. I wish we didn’t have to spilt into groups. =/  I don’t like the fact of being away from my friends until the middle of the week.

I’m guessing this will be the last post of the week. No computer for 5 days I’m guessing. Also, no music which means no iPod. *sigh* I guess I’ll just live with it.

La. La. La. I’m trying to work on math homework. Unfortunately, my brain is completely dead. I forgot what we learned in class like….I dunno….3 days ago? =/

………….

……..

…..

..

.

It’s raining. :O

-_-||

Great huh? This color matches my mood.

I feel bored.
