THE FALL OF ROME
Weak corrupt rulers caused the decline of Rome. Most rulers were generals, not politicians. A mercenary army made of foreign soldiers was paid to fight, they were not loyal to their country they easily changed sides. The size of the empire also caused the fall of Rome. The empire grew too big to manage. Tribes invaded the empire. They lost lots of their territories and they could not take over new territories.
Economic problems also contributed to the fall of Rome. With less money, food prices, taxes went up the government tried to mint more money which led to inflation the money became less worth.
Diocletian tried to stop the decline by making the army bigger and improving tax. He spilt up the empire into two parts he ruled the wealthier east past, and a co-emperor ruled the western part of the empire.
