On April 10th, 2012 most of the elementary in my school spend a day without shoes. To some people that may be odd but the reason we did this was to feel how other children and other people live their lives without shoes. In some schools they wont let you go to school just because of that little reason, you dont have shoes. Some people enjoyed being bare foot outside or bare foot in the halls but what most people dont think about is all the diseases it could cause and injuries such as hook worms and other things. I really hope a lot of people feel for the people with no shoes and next time, if you would like to, you could participate in a day without shoes.

For my Chinese New Year break I didn’t go anywhere. At home, one of the things we did for Chinese New Year break was bake. We baked tarts, and bars, sugar cookies, brownies, and chocolate chip cookies. It was really fun making the desserts and they were all so yummy! Since I stayed home it felt like a normal weekend but shorter. We also went to a friend’s house for dinner and some people also came over. My favorite part was baking, it was really fun and I love baking! In readers workshop we are focusing on characters. Right now I am reading the Series of Unfortunate events The Erastz Elevator and I have 3 main characters which are the three orphan siblings Violet,Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. Some thoughts I have about these characters is how they have their troublesome life. I also always think about the skills they already have and how they always get useful things out of it. The Baudelaire orphans have a mix of being very unlucky and lucky. For example the fact that the three orphans are alive and escape and are safe and another example about unlucky is the miserable, unfortunate things that have happened to them such as how their 2 friends risked their lives to save them and are now in the clutches of the terrible Count Olaf or when their parents died from the terrible fire that destroyed their home or when their guardians died and lots of other unlucky terrible things and when you think about it you’ll know how they will feel or think the rest of their life and also know what they have been through and also a little of what there going to go through. When I think of these characters I think of how they use their surroundings and also how they trust and be together with their siblings whom they always feel safe with. Burj Al Arab Hotel Room By Pareesa The elevator’s doors opened. I stepped out and shivered with excitement. For that moment we were all ready to be amazed upon a spectacular hotel room. The Burj Al Arab hotel was one of the best hotels in the whole world. We stood outside the door and when the doors opened the marvelous, miraculous, magical hotel room amazed me. I flopped down on a comfy looking chair. Our own private butler served us sparkling, bubbling peach juice. The room then smelled like sparkling peach juice. I felt the bubbles bubbling on my tongue and going down my warm throat. The juice was delicious. “Do you like the hotel room?” My parents asked as they checked in in the room (you were supposed to do that). “We love it!” my siblings and me replied. “It’s better than our house” I added looking around and taking a sip of our sparkling peach juice. It really was better than our house. Once the butler, the bellman, and the concierge left our room we decided to explore the room more. Once you walk in there is a desk on the left and straight ahead there is a lounge area. The lounge area has a long couch and a table in front of it. Then they are 2 comfy looking chairs sitting side by side. And my favorite chair, a long red soft bench with swirls at each side like for a princess. Then there was the beautiful spiral staircase. The theme colors were red and blue so it looked beautiful. We walked up the spiral staircase on the wall to the side there was a projector clock. I saw the projector shining brightly like a small bright moon gleaming in my eyes. When we reached the top of the stairs we headed to the bathroom (there was also a bathroom downstairs). When we opened the door I couldn’t speak. It was the most beautiful bathroom I had ever seen! The bathroom looked Venetian style with golden bathtubs and sinks. The bathroom was very big and it was lit up beautifully, the second we walked in it was flooded with excellence. We walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom across the bathroom. The bedroom was big and purple. On the right side of the room there was a lounge area. The lounge area had couches and pillows (the pillows were purple and different colors). On the left side of the room there was a big purple bed. Above the bed, on the ceiling there was a big mirror. Me, my mom, and my sister lay down and looked up at the mirror we then got up and looked at the table in front of the bed. But there was no TV on it. My mom should’ve been happy, no more watching TV for us (but there was still a TV downstairs). We then saw instructions to something lying on the bed and waiting to be picked up and read. My mom picked up the paper and read it, she then pressed a button on the remote and a big TV popped up from the small table in front of the bed. I gasped. It was beyond amazing.. I knew any of this could not get better. We went downstairs and looked at the channels menu to see if they had any channels we liked. We then plopped on the couch, flicked through the channels and once we found the right channel we narrowed our eyes to the TV and made ourselves comfortable. After that was pretty normal like any other day. TV, TV, TV. But. All day? We were then announced that that my grandparents were going to visit. I got very excited. I couldn’t wait to see them and show them the hotel room. After that I read a little and remembered when we first walked in the hotel. I remembered the 50 different kinds of fish we saw and how when we walked in the hotel those girls in a line served us warm towels and Arabian tea, which my parents loved. My sister and I were in the middle of the card game when we heard a “knock” at the door. My brother was watching TV and he pressed a button to show who was at the door. A little screen popped up and showed my grandparents at the door wobbling their heads and peeking in. I jumped up (taking my pile of cards) and rushed to the door. I hugged both grandparents (they were from my mom’s side). My parents came rushing in. After that I started showing my grandparents the whole hotel room. I kept talking on and on and somebody had to make me stop! Then a surprise of both my aunts visiting (mom’s side) I again started on and on about the room and they weren’t even listening (I know why). After dinner I played with my baby cousin who was 3 for hours and he loved the room (he was beyond cute). Then it was time to sleep. When I went to sleep I thought, “I hope this is not all dream”. And gladly it wasn’t. My name is Pareesa and I would like to welcome you to my blog. I am from Pakistan and I have been in Shanghai for 5 years, I have been at the same school for as long as I have lived in Shanghai. My favorite subject is writing because I love sharing my ideas. Who is your favorite singer.
We are all so excited that we just got our fantastic new elementary yearbook! 2 teachers worked so hard on this yearbook and the whole elementary should be so thankful. There was also a after school activity called Yearbook so some of the students took pictures of other after school activities and some drew pictures and some also wrote articles about events that have already happened. The 2 teachers who did the after school activity and made the Yearbook are Mrs.Robinson and Mrs.Hossack. Also the kids who signed up for the after school activity also did the articles, drew pictures, and took pictures for the yearbook. It turned out as a terrific Yearbook.
In class we have been learning on how to be Cybersmart. We visited a website called Cybersmart. It has lots o videos and quizzes to help us understand. Cybersmart means to always stay safe online and make sure your writing the right and appropriate things. 3 great ways to say safe online are to never write your last name and don’t open bad emails from people you DO NOT KNOW. Never give people personal information. f The file above is my second piece I have wrote in third grade. From all of the pieces I have wrote in third grade this is the best. My writing piece is called My Broken Arm. It is the time when I was little and I broken arm. This is my best piece I have wrote in third grade because I think that in this piece I added more details and showed how I was really feeling. |
