First Assignments of Invention Convention Phase Two
March 16, 2010
Our first assignment was to create a list of ten inventions that we thought of. My strategy was to just do ordinary day life and when there was a problem I tried to find a way to solve it. For extra work, I did 12 ideas.
After a week, the list was due. I handed it in and hoped it was ok… It was! Now came the next step:
We had to chose four of our best ideas. We illusrated those ideas in our Invention Convention Phase two books. Next to our illustrations we wrote a short paragraph about what the idea was and how it worked. After that was finished, came step three:
To chose our best invention and draw a more detailed sketch of it. Along with the sketch we wrote another paragraph explaining the invention in even more detail. Also we thought of the materials we needed and possible names for the invention.
If Mr. Hanlin approved our invention he gave us a patent to fill in so that no one else could copy your invention. Then, you could start making your invention. While making it you wrote in your construction log and explained every step you took.
These were the first couple assignments of Invention Convention Phase two. Tomorrow I’ll tell you more.
My Sister’s Band Performance
March 15, 2010
Today, my mom picked me up from class a little early. Do you know why?????……. Of course you don’t! Anyway, I’ll tell you now. I went to my sister’s band performance!
Small groups of three to five performed together in the Middle School band room. My sister’s group went first. She was in a group of four people. Everyone in her group played the alto saxophone. After that, many other groups played songs. There were all sorts of instruments! Trumpets, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, flutes, clarinets, tubas, trombones, vibraphones, drums, guitars and many more.
In the middle of the performances, my sister’s friend was supposed to play with her group but the group couldn’t find her. Luckily, my sister knew that she was in French class and quickly ran to get her. Right after that they played a really cool song with vibraphones.
I’ve heard some pretty cool music today. I hope I can play like that when I’m in Middle School.

I know that for some of you it’s quite hard to find a book to read that you’ll really enjoy. That’s why I’ve made a list of my favorite books. I highly recommend them. Here they are:
1. Wicked!- This is a book filled with disgusting moments and cliffhangers making you want to read on!

2. Out of the Dust- This book is very emotional and sad but at the same time, that’s what makes it fun!
3. Hatchet- A book filled with great, detailed descriptions.

4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid- A book about a normal kid who’s like anybody else and about his life in middle school.

5. Ida B- A story about a young girl and her mother and father and her plans for the future.

I hope you enjoy these books! I really recommend them!
