Humanities Homework- paragraph on summer

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on August 29, 2010

ok, I have to post a small paragraph on a memory that i have from this summer and use a sensory word, reflective and memory. I have decided to write about the one day this summer where I went down to the santa cruz beach board walk in california.

Wow! The mouthwatering smell of fennel cake swarms around the one place where i can be cold and happy at the same time. You can feel the breeze from the ocean coming on, wrapping you with the cold of the pacific. The muted grey washes over the distant end of the ocean with the sun slightly peeking over. Chattering of people from all over california whistles at the back of my head while excitement fills, pushing out all other emotions. I was waiting in line for my favorite ride: the Giant Dipper. This ride starts going down in the pitch black, you cannot see the twists and turns it takes you on, sweeping you from side to side in your seat. Once you get out of the tunnel and in to the sun it brings you up into the fog of california’s morning. The next thing you know, you are falling down screaming with your arms up. You think its going to be an endless tossing and turning but it ends- and you want more. :D

Seth- The God of Chaos and Evil

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on May 6, 2010

Seth is an Egyptian god whom I was chosen to study. We are going to have a cocktial party tomarrow where I will dress up as Seth. Here is a short paragraph I have written about how Seth became the god of evil and chaos.

Seth was the second son born to the egyptian gods Geb and Nut.  He was jelous if his brother Osiris and decided to kill him. He got a plesently big box and said that if Osiris could fit in to the box he could have it. Osiris follishly went in to the box and all of Seth’s helper nailed the box shut so he couldn’t get out. They dropped the box in the Nile river.  The wife of Osiris, Isis, found the dead body in the Nile River after he was dead. It seems unsure how she did this but she brought him back to life long enough to concieve a son which Isis named Horus. When Horus grew up, Seth and horus had a very long and violet fight. Horus lost an eye and Seth lost his testicals. In some stories, Horus wins and in others, Seth wins but that is not the end of this story. Geb, the father of Seth and grandfather of Horus, divided egyptin in to lower and upper egypt. Seth was the ruler of upper egypt and horus was the ruler od lower egypt. For a fact, it is known that Upper Egypt, Seth’s land, conquered Lower Egypt but on the Shabaka stone, it says it is the other way around.

Chinese Experience…

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on May 4, 2010

photo from market1I was assigned a task in Chinese class to go to the Chinese market. There are some pictures below. The entire time I was there I was trying to come up with some sort of definition for it. I finally found one while driving in the car home. The Chinese local market is an extreme version of the Danville Farmer’s Market. There are a lot of differences though. The Danville Farmer’s Market (only people from my home town would know what this is) is an organized place where people come to buy vegetables and just walk around. However, the Chinese local market is very unorganized with all of the tables overflowing with food and anyone just comes in with there scooters and pets. If they wanted to have a conversation with someone, they won’t go over to the side like they would in Danville, they would just stop where they were, right in the middle of the walkway. While I was there, I interacted with three people. Two just said either the price or how good the food I was trying to buy was but when we went up to a lady who was selling peanuts she said “ohhhh ni de zhong wen shi hen hao!!! Ni hen piao liang!!!” which means “ohhhh your Chineseis very good!!! You are very pretty!!!”. On the way out, My mom took a picture of me with all of our groceries. Two little girls watched me take the picture and my mom asked them if they wanted to take one with me but they just went away. Well, we were successful while we were inside though. We bought some strawberries, bananas, onion, peanuts and almost broccoli. I had a blast and am looking forward to my next time there.

My Dream House

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on May 3, 2010

DESCRIBE THE DREAMHOUSE PROJECT

This is a picture of my dream house that I made in art class. The dream house project was a project where you made the house that you wanted to have when you grow up. We had to use one point perspective and had to make it monochromatic which means it had to be one color. The buildings had to be monochromatic but the features could be any color you wanted it to be. There were three main things we had to do in this project: draft it in our note book or just make a house, then you had to make it on a big piece of white paper in pencil. After that, you were to color it in.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION OF YOUR DREAM HOUSE

I am from San Francisco, California and a beach would just make me feel like home. I love to play soccer and that would explain the soccer goal on the beach. I love to explore and would love to have a big house to move and run around in. Where I am from in California, there are a lot of mountains so some of the sceinery would just be homey to me. I love to swim in pools and in and ocean and absolutley adore slides so really, this house is what makes me feel comfortable and happy.

IF YOU WERE GOING TO BUILD YOUR HOUSE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE

My home would be in California but most likely not in San Francisco. San Francisco has way to many people for me so maybe on th caost outside of San Francisco. The reason I would have it in california would be because the weather is perfect, never too cold and that everything is the way I would want is to be.

Never Trust a Tomb Robber

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on April 25, 2010

Here is an acrostic peom that i wrote for my humanities class. It is about a book I read called Ramose and The Tomb Robbers. The vocabulary words are bolded so that you can see what I am studying in Humanities. My poem is called NEVER TRUST A TOMB ROBBER.

Never tust anyone who will give you a boat ride to Memphis
Everyone thinks Ramose is dead
Very little food every night causes Ramose to be light headed
Every night is a search for ancient treasure in a pyramid
Ramose discards lavish clothes to hide his true identity

The gods are getting angry with Ramose
Robbers disguised as sailsmen kidnap Ramose, his future looked very grim
Under the water after a rianstorm
Seth died after being crushed by a rock
Two tombs are robbed

princess’s and a pharoh’s tombs are robbed

The job of going to work at the pyramid everyday and taking attendance must be tedious
Over the mountains and in to the desert is where they must go to be safe
Moored boat are off in the distance… Ramose and his friends must take one to Memphis
Brown sand stretches as far as the eye can see

Ramose winced when he got inside of the tomb to see the corpse
Of course, Hapu had to be a bit more scornful to Mery who he used to hate
By the time Ramose and Hapu are ready to get out of the tomb, Hori and Intef have pulled up the rope
Because Ramose robed the tombs, he will be punnished in the afterlife
Entering the alabaster coffin was a big mistake, what is the consequence?
Ramose probably felt sorry for himself when he saw that the rocks made gouges in his legs after the rainstorm

Math questions 24 & 28

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on April 6, 2010

24. The rectangle and the parellelagram to the right have the smae perimeter. why does the rectangle have a greater area?

The parellelagram and the rectangle have the same perimeter because one the edge on both the top and the sides are the same. That does not mean that the height is the same though. The height on the parellelagram is 1.6 when the height on the rectangle is 2. Since the tops are the some on both, the rectangle’s area is larger.

28.
a: copy and complete the table on the left by finding the area and perimeter of all of them.

length height perimeter Area
3 inches 1 inch 8 inches 3 inches2
6 inches 2 inches 16 inches 12 inches2
9 inches 3 inches 23 inches 27 inches2
12 inches 4 inches 32 inches 36 inches2

b. what happens to the perimeter of the rectangle when you double triple or quadruple the dimensions?
The perimeter increases

c. What happens to the area of the rectangle when you double, triple or quadruple the dimensions?

The area also increases.

Science Electromagnitism Lab

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on April 6, 2010

Here is a peice of work I did in Science. I think that this Lab was a good example of my science labs and it explains how well I understand our science concepts. I thought that this was my best lab of the whole year because I went above and beyond of Mr. Bisters exoectations.

How Can I Make Electromagnetism Stronger?

Hypothesis: If I wrap a copper wire around a nail then the nail will pick up staples. If I wrap it more then the amount of electromagnetism will increase.

Amount of Wraps

Amount of Staples

10

1

20

1

30

2

40

2

50

9

60

14

70

15

Observations:

·         The coils get hot because the electrons go faster

·         As we added more coils, the amount of staples increased

Conclusion: My Hypothesis was right. If more wraps are added around a nail, the magnet will get stronger. I know this because when there were 10 wraps it only picked up one staple but when there were 70 there were 15.

Now, we added more cells while staying at 100 wraps…

Hypothesis:  If I add more cells to my circuit, My electromagnetism with the wraps will get stronger.

Amount of Cells

Amount of Staples

Conclusion: My hypothesis was right. If I add more cells to my circuit, my electromagnetism will increase. I know this because my data increases by ten staples every tim

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on April 6, 2010

This is my math test from fractions. I think that this test was not very good because I didn’t  study.

Here it is!

Jordan Test

This test was a lot better. I needed to get 100% on this to bring my grade up to an A. I did it! here it is!

Dar Essay and Reflection

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on March 31, 2010

In my humanities class, we read a book called Dar and the Spear Thrower. We wrote an essay at the and writing a letter from the main character’s perspective.

Dear Toreg,

I have reached my clan safely and I would like for you to know how much I enjoy possessing a spear-thrower. It is though my whole life has changed.
When I told my wise grandmother, Mora, that her beloved brother Seelanwas alive, her eyes started to water with tears of happiness. A smile spread across her face; it was so wide it looked exaggerated. She started to ask me questions about his present life. Questions like ‘Why didn’t he come back?’, ‘Where is he?’, ‘How much family does he have there compared to here?’ She would like for you to tell him that she loves her bracelet more than anything she possesses and that she misses him and loves him SO much.
Since my return, my relationship with Kenok has improved a lot. He has started to treat me with the respect I deserve. He actually talks to me and smiles like I have never seen him smile before. I know that he supplied everything for my family and was the best hunter in my clan, but he never showed he truly loved me. Now I know for sure he truly cares.
I just showed the rest of the hunters my spear-thrower and I wish you could have been there to see their faces. They threw their own spear, only half way to the tree when my spear went to the middle of it. They were all amazed on how well my skill was. They were also very surprised that none of them could do it. Now, they all want me to make one for them. I wish Seelan were here to help me make them.
All together, my life is great. Bowen has become my friend and I am teaching him how to use the spear thrower. He is just like me; he thought he could do it in one try too. Kenok seems to love me and respect me and my grandmother seems more optimistic than ever. Thank you!

Love,
Dar

Dar Essay Reflection

How I feel about my essay: I’m really happy with my Dar essay because I got a better grade in my conventions and spelling than in most of my other essays.

The most successful/easiest aspect of writing the Dar essay was…
The most successful thing in my Dar essay was when I talked about Dar’s relationship with Kenok.  I thought that this was the best part of my essay.

The most difficult aspect of writing the Dar essay was…
I found that the most difficult thing in writing this essay was writing it from another person’s perspective. I think that if it were a regular essay that I had written about the book I would have done a bit better.

The Six Trait that was easiest for me was…

I think that the easiest trait of writing in this essay was Ideas. I don’t know how people don’t know how to organize ideas. That comes unnaturally for me. Things like spelling and word choice are hard and I have to work to get that right.

Humanities Reflection

Posted by jordan01pd2016 on March 31, 2010

Writing rReflection:

In the beginning of 6th grade, my challenges in writing were…w
ord choice and conventions were my biggest challenges but I had some more little ones. I have improved in both but I think I can do more.

In writing, I’ve made the most progress in…. word choice. I know the words I want to use but I am not sure how to put them on to the page to make sense. I have also made a big improvement in my conventions. I have learned to use spell check and recheck for grammar.

Some challenges that still remain are…my conventions and word choice have improved but can improve more. I need to improve my vocabulary and stop making typing errors that look like spelling errors.

As a writer, I know I….am good but can get better at writing. There is always room for improvement.

Reading Reflection:

In the beginning of 6th grade, my independent reading consisted of realistic fiction. Books like Star Girl, Al Capone shines My Shoes and Al Capone does My Shirts. Now I am reading more fantasy than anything.

I see I have grown as a reader byreading different types of books, thicker books and reading more often.

Some challenges I face as a reader areI can’t read very fast but I read at a steady pace. My pace is okay for me but it is hard to read a book in time for AR.

As a reader, I know I….that I can read at an okay level and pace for me. I know that if a book is to hard for me I can stop reading it and read something else.

My AR goal for the fourth quarter is…. 30 points because I struggle to get 20 points (20 points= A+).  I want to push myself to get more than that just to impress myself.

Social Studies Reflection:

My understanding of social studies has grown/expanded….I learned about archaeology, early man (the evolution of man), and early civalizations. I think that all of these topics are very interesting so I find them easy to study.

Some skills that I have made improvements on have been made in my studying. I have learned to study more often so that I get the concepts better.

Some skills that I still need work on are….

I think that in social studies, I need to work on geography in general. I do not know how to improve on that other than to just study it. If I have a map, I can tell you where the states are in the US but I need to work on world geography.

My best work in social studies is…..my Harry Potter Newsletter. I worked with a partner to write a news paper about food and farming in ancient Mesopotamia and I thought my article in that essay was wonderful.
