site: http://www.firstscience.com/home/articles/mysteries/the-mystery-of-the-bermuda-triangle_15176.html

This article is talking about the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. As we all know, hundreds of ships, and planes were disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean called the Bermuda Triangle (Between Miami, Puerto Rico and Bermuda). And there are number of theories explaining about what could be happening there. Their explanation was because of bad weather, bubbling methane, and there are mysterious time warp in the Bermuda Triangle.

According to the article, Twins George and David Rothschild were the first one to experience this weird happening in Bermuda Triangle in 1952. “We had been flying for probably 20 or 30 minutes when all of a sudden the pilot yelled out that the instruments were dead and he became very frantic,” said Rothschild. Not only that, but he lost his bearings, he had no idea how much the gas was left in the fuel tank, and he didn’t even know where he was. Luckily some how, they landed safely landed on Norfolk.

In addition, there were some more different things happened to several different people in Bermuda Triangle. However, the surprising fact was that several people who experienced bizarre happening and came alive had some similarities. They all experienced strange things in the plane or the ship.

Although countless airplanes and ships had gone missing in cryptic Bermuda Triangle, it is meaningful to me, because it makes me think of the interesting theories, and make me really curious and want to research about it. In addition, it lets my thoughts and contemplation grow bigger.

My Brain Structure

For my title, I wrote ‘My Brain Structure’, because the symbols that are leaning on each other are the valuable things for me. So that means these things that are represented as the symbols take big part of my brain. My artwork reflects what I like or desire to have. My sculpture represents combinations of experiences, thinking, and characteristic. It is most likely a sculpture of part of my brain structure. This sculpture is a combination of 6 symbols that is the only one sculpture that represents my feeling.

The materials that I used for my art work includes Styrofoam, cutting knife, spray, glue stick, hot glue gun, thin wire, the words in magazines, pencil, and eraser. I combined these symbols because the things are what I want, need, and love.  I chose to arrange these symbols or the texts, because they are exactly symbolize me and some of them are extraordinary that catch people’s attention. In addition, obviously, these symbols can only represent me.

In creating this sculpture, I found that it take a lot time to finish making it. Even though it took about 2 semesters to organize, practice, brainstorm, create, and finish it, I think it is a great idea to make my own sculptures. I feel my work is successfully done and happy with my work. Additionally, I learned how to make a 3D sculpture with my symbols.

Broken Vessel

When my dad walked into the room, I knew I was in big trouble. His face was a deep red in color, and he held a piece of broken pottery in his hand. The elegant, deep blue color of the vessel, with its beautiful patterns, was instantly recognizable. It was a family treasure, which my dad had received from his great grandmother.  This graceful vessel had been passed down through 4 generations, and I had broken that very vessel when I was playing with a long spongy pillow with my friend, Alison. The vessel would probably be worth more than $10000 today. I could see the steam rising above my father’s head.

“What have you done!” he yelled at me. I knew dad was going to be very mad, and my heart was beating extremely fast.  I felt like a teeny, tiny mouse would feel just before being eaten by a starving cat.  Tears were running down my face and dripping onto the floor.

Dad grabbed one of my hands and pulled me out of the room after him.  He brought me up to the attic. Then, he brought out a long and thick stick and waved it in front of me. Obviously, it was going to be a terrible punishment. “ Show me both of your hands, you know you will have to get punished, don’t you?” Dad’s voice sure sounded very serious. I showed him my hands obediently. He hit my hands ten times, hard. It felt as if he put all his force into it.   “You are not allowed to play with your friends in the house for a month!’ he yelled at me. Then he went upstairs. It was the first time I had seen him really mad. My clothes were wet with tears. I didn’t have the courage to go upstairs to face my dad and say sorry to him. Therefore, I stayed up there in the attic, regretting everything.

While I was crying quietly, my phone rang. “Jennifer how was your dad? I shouldn’t have asked to you to play with pillows. Sorry,’’ my friend, Alison said. “ I got a very small punishment, but it is not your fault at all. And thank you for calling me.” I replied as if nothing happened. I did not want to let her know that I was crying. After chatting with her, I went to upstairs to say ‘sorry’ to my dad. When I reached to the living room, the small pieces of broken vessel had already been cleaned away and thrown into the trashcan.

(my dad is not that evil!)

Windows to the soul

My artwork shows my symbols, patterns, colors (warm & cool, complementary colors and etc), and my own portrait. So basically, this artwork represents me.

Photo 37

What did the process involve?

* Identifying personal traits : I identified my personal traits using these symbols detail.

*  Learning to make symbols
: I learned that almost everyone should understand what are these symbols represent.

*  Drawing your portrait
: I used guidelines, because these make my portrait look a lot like me. In addition, I emphasized my thick eyebrows and eyes so that people would recognize me easier.

*  Learning texture/value and painting techniques: I put a lot of water in value change to make natural. I also painted complementary colors in background of a diary, warm colors in the background of ice cream.

What do your symbols represent?

These 6 big symbols represent the things that I love the most. (Ice cream, music, love, jewels, diary, and friendship) Throughout this artwork, I drew symbols that are slightly different from others.

What was the most interesting or fun part of the project?

The most interesting part of the project was coloring in warm and cold colors. when I used warm colors in my symbols, or the patterns, the things looked more welcoming, while cold colors looked aloof. It was fascinating that I could use those colors to express the feelings.

What was the most difficult thing about the project?

The most difficult part was coloring value change and drawing ice cream. I didn’t know how much water to use in value change, but in the end I figured it out. For drawing ice cream, I wanted to make it as if it is real, so it took some time to draw it.

What would you like to change about this project?

I want to put some more creative patterns and shapes, because I want to catch audiences’ attention through not well-known and unusual patterns and shapes, to show my imagination more.
