Reading Letter……..Oh so now you expect me to remember the number after I didn’t last time?!

Dear Ms. Kyle, pg 34-50
I have recently began reading a novel by Micheal Morpurgo titled Kensuke’s Kingdom.
The section I read was very shocking! At first it is all nice with only a few minor problems, then something really BIG happens! I really felt glad that it wasn’t me in the story! The story is really understandable so far because I can really connect to it.
First of all I would like to briefly summarize the story. The book starts out with a boy named Michael who loves soccer, one day his parents are in a really bad mood when usually they are always happy! His Dad lost his job and was moping. One day, Micheal finds his mom sobbing!
His mom tells him that the dad has left them to find them a new place to live. The Father comes back all jumpy and overexcited with the news that they have a new home. After scurrying down to their new real estate, they realize that its a boat! Yeah I was surprised there too that they had a boat as a house! I guess it could be a houseboat though……Anyway, they get a boat instructor who they call “Barnacle Bill” Not in front of his face though. Oh did I forget to mention, Micheal has a dog named Stella Artois, kinda a weird name when you think of it. They get on this boat and go on all sorts of adventures! South America, Australia, Africa! You name it, (Just don’t say Germany, England, France, Spain, China, Japan, etc.)
One night, when Micheal is steering the boat, he realizes that Stella is on the deck without a safety harness! Mike went over to get her back inside but she’s barking at something. After calling and whistling several times he took out his lucky ball which he had signed from his friend before he moved. He rolled it around to try and attract Stella, but nobody was steering the ship so it violently rocked to the side and through his lucky ball off the deck to be engulfed into the masses of water. Micheal was so ticked that he cursed furiously and threw Stella in his arms. Yet still nobody was steering the ship so yet another rock to the side but this time even harder. From the angle of the tilt, both Stella Artois and Micheal were thrown overboard, their fate to be decided by the sea. While he is looking for Stella, he grabs onto something white, only to find out that its his soccer ball. Sitting there, waiting for the boat to come looking for him, he can’t help but slowly…….Fall….Asleep. He is woken up by the hot breath of Stella. Only to find that he is on a deserted island with nobody but Stella and him! He is scared so stays close to Stella at all times.
I had a text-to-self connection when I was reading the part where Stella wasn’t coming, it reminded me of how infuriated I become when my dogs don’t come when I tell them to. Also I had a text-to-world connection when they got washed up on the island, it reminds me of a movie I saw where a man is washed up on an island with only a basketball as his friend. Even though Stella can be a pain in the neck sometimes, Micheal still loves her. That is the same with my nuisance dogs, they bark and don’t stop, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like them.
In conclusion, I so far think that the author had some great ideas for this book. Maybe more study on him would prove that events like these occurred to him? If he has made any more books I will be sure to read through as many as possible. I hope that you may even consider reading this yourself! Trust me its awesome!
Sincerely,
J.D.

Kensuke’s Kingdom is a great book about survival of a boy on an island (although I barely remember. That was 2 years ago)
