Science

Science was a lot of fun this quarter. We got to be an inventor and learned about simple machines. The quarter saw us to Phase II of the Invention Convention. It was a lot of fun. It took a long time to do this project and you had to be really organized so that you had enough time to do everything.

As I said there were many steps to this project. I want to outline the various steps.

1. Brainstorming–We came up with 10 problems that effected us and 10 solutions

2. More detailed brainstorming–We drew 4 possible inventions(conceptual models) that we might build

3. Planning–We planned 1 invention and drew a conceptual model

4. Construction–We wrote detailed instructions and built our prototypes

5. Testing–We developed three tests for our invention and made adaptations to make our prototype stronger. We also had to record details about each test and the results. we then commented on the changes these result made us do to our prototype.

6. Testimonials/Recommendations–We then had to record in our log books three people’s opinion of the invention and how it worked.

7. Reflection–We then reflected on the whole process.

8. Marketing–We then had to create a poster and pitch to sell our invention at the convention Poster1 and Poster2

Over all I did well on constructing the invention.

Another neat thing we did is the Goldberg Junkyard war and the Lego Kits.

In the Golberg Junkyard, our tack was to pop a balloon with the most steps using recyclables we brought in before. It was a lot of fun working with my group (Yuval, Victor, S.T. and Samantha) and completing the task. Although my team did not win a prize, it was okay for me, because I still learned numerous lessons that day. But one main one was learing how to work with people that you normally don’t hang out with.

Although our class didn’t finish the Lego Kits, I still learned a lot about operating simple machines. I hope that when the 4th quarter starts, my class will continue to work on the Lego Kits.
