Mathematics

In Mathematics this term we have done the following units

1. Positive and Negative   Mark:  97%

2. Fractions and Ratios     Mark:  94%

3. Volume and Area           Mark:  96%

I now realize where I went wrong on each test:

Unit 7: On Unit 7 I only got one problem wrong.  The problem that I missed was really confusing for me.  It was so long and almost everything we learned in that chapter was there.  I guess I got confused because of all the signs and numbers.

Unit 8: As a learner I have to learn to take my time on each test and always check my work.  On  this test that’s what happened.  I didn’t check my work when I was doing the test so I got those two problems wrong.  But that wasn’t the only case in those two problems.  It’s also because I didn’t practice that (multiplying mixed fractions) kind of problem.  Now I plan to do more of those problems.

Unit 9: On Unit 9, just like Unit 7, I only got one wrong.  The problem I got wrong was about labeling the height of a parallelogram and a triangle.  I accidentally labeled the height the line outside instead of the one inside.   From that test I learned an easier way to find the height of any shape.

The New Skills I have Learned Are:

  • Adding and subtracting negative numbers
  • An easier way to find the height of any shape
  •  Divide fractions
  • Order of Operations

I would like to demonstrate to you and explain to you how to:

divide fractions.  This is a link to a site that explains how to divide fractions.  This is a video that explains how to divide fractions.  I will walk you through the video while you watch.

I would like to demonstrate to you and explain to you how to:

do the Lattice Method.  This is a link to a site that explains how to do the lattice method.  This is a video that explains how to do the lattice method.  I will walk you through the video while you watch.

Skills I Would Like To Improve On To Strengthen My Mathematics Are:

  • Multiplying  fractions
  • Order of operations
  • Adding and subtracting negative numbers
  • Turn fractions into percents without a calculator
