The Day My MacBook Saved My Life

The day my MacBook saved my life, started like any regular day. I woke up, ate breakfast, took a shower, and got on the bus to get to school. All the events after that though, were nowhere near normal.

It all started when the bus came to a halt in the middle of the highway. The bus monitor told us all to not worry, but looking pretty frazzled herself. As the bus driver got off the bus looking for a way to solve our problem, the bus monitor continued to comfort us. She told that it was nothing but a flat tire, and would be solved very quickly. Soon enough, some of the older students started to ask questions like: “are we going to die?”, “did we get attacked by terrorist?”… Instead of laughing at the insane questions, she looked even more bothered than ever. This is when I seriously started to worry.

To take my mind of things happening around me, I opened my MacBook, plugged in my earphones and started to listen to music. As I was jamming out to the songs on my MacBook, I saw a tall black shadow towering over me. The tall black shadow was pointing a real life pistol at me. As he charged the gun and continued pointing it at me, I panicked and held my MacBook up to my face. From the corner of my eye, I saw him pull the trigger.

I held my MacBook tighter, as the bullet as if in slow motion came spinning to my MacBook cover. I squeezed my eyes shut not knowing what else I could do.

When I finally had the guts to open my eyes, everyone was cheering loudly. The MacBook had deflected the bullet and hit the tall black shadow. Who was the tall black shadow? When the police finally arrived, they identified the man to be a crook who had been on the run for a long time. Apparently, he had just had a massive doze of booze and anti- depressants. That was what had made his behavior so erratic.

Thank Apple! Who would have guessed that a MacBook could deflect bullets. That was the day my MacBook saved my life, till now I live to tell the story.

For our dream house project, we had to draw our dream house and color it in using monochromatic colors.

I called my house RedZing because it’s red and ofcourse… amazing!!!

I thought up my dream house by writing down things that no other normal house would have. Then I started thinking about some of the things my family and I enjoyed doing. I picked the color red, becuase it has been my favorite color ever as far as I can remember. Also I thought it would give it a unique feel and a warm glow. When people go to my house, I would like them to spend a lot of time outdoors. So I made sure I have a lot of roof space and a courtyard.

If I could build my dream house anywhere in the world, it would either be in the Philippines, Australia or Iceland. I pick Philippines for my first choice because it is my home of heart. Australia is my second choice because, though I’ve never been there, I here there is really nice weather there. Same for Iceland, I heard in a book that’s it’s an amazing place.

Nut was married to the King of the Gods, Ra, but she was in love with Geb. When Ra found out, he was angry and said that Nut could not give birth to any children during the 360 days of the year. Nut was unhappy and asked the God of Wisdom, Thoth to help. At this time, the Moon was as bright as the Sun. Thoth got some light from the Moon, so now the Moon gets bigger and smaller each month. With this light, Thoth made five new days, so now the year is 365 days long. Nut gave birth to her five children, on these five days.

Dear Toreg,

I have reached my clan safely and wish to tell you a little bit about what is going on here. Please inform Seelan and your clan about this letter so that they know how my clan and I are doing.

Seeing Mora’s face when I told her that her beloved brother, Seelan, is still alive was one of the happiest moments of my life. I remember the moment like it was just yesterday. As I told her the news, tears of joy trickled down her cheeks. She grinned widely, and demanded to know more. I told her everything and anything I knew about Seelan and his tribe, what Seelan was wearing when I got there, all the way to word for word what he told me about everything! She must really miss him, but when I explained to her about his maimed leg, more tears flowed down from her eyes to her cheeks. But I know that deep down inside she was just happy that someone was caring for her brother. When I was done talking endlessly, she sat on the log bench, and went into profound thinking. I slowly snuck away and grabbed the bracelet in the pocket of my knapsack. I sprinted back to Mora and placed the beautiful, ivory bracelet in her hand. I could practically see all her moments with Seelan flashing through her mind as she slipped the bracelet onto her wrist. She kissed me on the cheek and whispered the two words, “Thank you” into my ear.

Since my return, my relationship with Kenok is completely different. The day we met in the pinewood forest is the day that changed my life forever. We talked about our differences and similarities and developed an inner father son bond that I never realized we had. I also convinced him that the animal he saw that killed my father was a dagger- tooth cat, not a spirit creature. I’m glad he is free from that burden he held for so long. He is now teaching me little by little more about manhood while I teach him a little about sculpting. Kenok supports my idea about being a sculptor and is looking forward to all the amazing things I will be making in the future. I enjoy his day to day company and am happy to finally have a Dad.

When the hunters of my clan witnessed the spear- thrower in action, they whooped in excitement and enthusiasm. Before I knew it, I was getting mauled by a huge group of grown- men, begging for a spear thrower with specific designs like little children. I was pleased with their reaction because it made me feel a quiet buzz of satisfaction in my heart. Like Kenok, they were more than happy about my idea about being a sculptor. I hope I can get all those spear- throwers done soon.

All in all, everything is going very well. Kenok and I are closer than ever, Grandma Mora now knows that her brother is still alive, and I know that my trip was worth- it. I can tell I have an amazing life ahead of me. As much as I miss you and your clan, I’m glad I came back to settle things with my clan.

Best regards,

Dar

Reflection

I’m really proud with my Dar essay because I got a 40/40 as my grade.

The most successful/easiest aspect of writing the Dar essay was my ideas because the teacher told you the topic, all you had to do was follow it.

The most difficult aspect of writing the Dar essay was knowing when to put a comma, semicolon and period.

The Six Trait that was easiest for me was sentence fluency because what to write came naturally to me.

The Six Trait that I need to work on more in the the future is my conventions. I had a lot of errors because I put too many commas.

In the beginning of 6th grade, my independent reading consisted of only realistic fiction and fantasy books.

I see I have grown as a reader because I am noticing that I’m reading more books and getting more 100%s in AR lately.

Some challenges I face as a reader are reading different genres.

As a reader, I know I really need to read more (at least one) nonfiction book per month.

My AR goal for the fourth quarter is to get more than 100 points.

Writing Reflection:

In the beginning of 6th grade, my biggest challenge in writing was using less garbage words. I used to get the two letters GW (Garbage Word) all over my paper.

In writing, I’ve made the most progress in sentence fluency. In fifth grade, most of my sentences use to always be all the same. Now, I can write better and more meaningful sentences.

Some challenges that still remain are getting 100% in conventions when writing. I always put an unnecessary comma, semicolon, period… but I’m working on it, and I think I’m getting better.

As a writer, I know I still need a lot of practice to be the best I can be. I still lack experience in many areas of writing, but feel I’m getting better anyhow.

Social Studies Reflection

My understanding of social studies has expanded, because now I feel like an expert about Mesopotamia.

Some skills that I have made improvements on are working with the application “Pages” on the Mac and making bibliographies on the website “Noodletools”.

Some skills that I still need work on are my note taking skills. I tend to write down everything when taking notes.

My best work in social studies is the Dar essay I wrote because I got a 40/40.
