King Arthur Writing Activity

January 23rd, 2008 by grant04pd2013

After reading an excerpt from a book on King Arthur, we were asked to either make a story or a ballad on an enchanted weapon or object given to our original character. Since I try to avoid lots of long writing, and tend to stretch a story out, I chose to do a ballad. This is it so far:

Once upon an olden time,

there was a flame that was divine

To burn forever was its cause,

Always subjected to the kingdoms awe

This fire so good, so holy and bright

Helped the kingdom in its fight

against the evil fiends of dark,

their evil reduced to but a spark

But then against the kingdoms cause

The fiends began to strike once more

Without a single moments pause

The Darkness began the Only Great war

Darkness forever closer comes

Only one shall never run

The kingdom protector of the flame

Shall fail its quest, t’was all in vain

The blaze shall dwindle small & weak

Another protector it does seek

Darkness forever closer comes

The one true hero is nearly here

This fire once born from good and light

Was corrupted by malice, rage and spite

Of evil known amongst few men

Except the one who entered the archfiends den

Darkness rules this land once good

A hero has come to destroy the bad

To claim the flame long corrupted & had

Lost to darkness since the war started

The flame is touched the fiends departed

Darkness burned by rays of light

Shall never come again despite

The power of the archfiends roar

They shall not battle forever more

The flame now kept by its protector

Forever safe forever strong

Shall burn away the armys of darkness

Land the duo shall conquer…

Writers Block should be abolished from this world.

Why?

Simply because it is the most diabolical, spiteful, malicious, atrocious, barbaric, fiendish, annoying, irritating, aggravating, distressful, exasperating, irksome, painful, provoking, troublesome, vexing object to ever exist in this world.

Reading Response: Area 7

January 22nd, 2008 by grant04pd2013

Sorry if I have used some of these questions, I got a new blog question sheet

I am going over the book Area 7 by Matthew Reilly, A book about a top secret military base in the Utah desert.

1) Create an award for this book. Explain the award and why this book received it.

I would make an award called the “Tight Scenario Award” because in a lot of sections of the book the author had to think of an incredible, but realistic way for the character to escape a “Tight Scenario”

2) Write a eulogy ( a speech honoring someone after death) for one of the characters.

Sargent Wendall ‘Elvis’ Haynes

Died in the line of duty, enabling his friends to escape

and taking out several rogue 7th squadron members

May he rest in peace.

3) What are the best parts of the book? Why? What are the worst parts? Why?

The best parts of the book are the researched parts. Basically all the book. The whole book has been researched thoroughly and this give the book a realistic enviroment where extraordinary things can happen. The worst part, doesn’t exist.

Ballad Work

January 14th, 2008 by grant04pd2013

Those whose heritage does declare                                                                                             that they shall live in a house that’s fair                                                                                      above all other to be saw,                                                                                                               all that see shall gasp in awe.

A Fire is built for spite to build                                                                                                  against the rules of king and crown                                                                                             This Malicious Guild,                                                                                                                  Seeks the country to fall down

A Doom is sealed, the fire burn bright                                                                                           A War shall come from this sparse spite

Those whose heritage does so state

That they can live in a house of stone

A target of war that enemies hate

A siege of battle their house is prone

Their doom is sealed the fire burn bright

Siege don’t last against the height

A Lord of strength a lord of power

With anger enough to undo the tower

Against the will of the king

Pain and destruction he will bring

A Doom Is sealed the fire burn bright

This siege will last 1000 nights

The battle is long is cold is strong

Time to undo the enemy’s strength

This siege has lasted far too long

For any measurement, any length

A Doom is sealed the fire burn bright

This siege will end, the world is bright

The bodies are dead,

Their malice, their spite long lost

Betrayed instead

For comrades long lost to the frost

Their doom is done the fire can dim

Lost in malice, their souls begin

To emerge from darkness, they have seen the grim

For all of those new to china, here’s a page for anything funny that can only happen in china. Example: “That one time we were in a taxi and and he ran a red and nearly crashed into another car, then the taxi got mad at the other car.”

Ive heard several of these stories and decided to compile them into a list.

Readin Response Blog: Flyte

December 11th, 2007 by grant04pd2013

This Book, Flyte is the sequal to the previous book in the septimus Heap series Magyk.

Here are the three reading response questions.

1) Which character would you like to be in this book? Why?

I would like to be Septimus Heap because he has extreme magykal abilities and could be infinitely powerful, and anyone will admit that that would be fun

2) Create a slogan for the book and explain why you chose this…

Magyk, not always what it seems would be a good slogan for this book because nothing is as it seems. Theres something special about everyone of the characters in this book.

3) Create and explain a math formula that would summarize your plot.

A/5 = t/c . s/10 + J/3(V/2+I/4)

I made this formula and this is how I think the plot works

Amusement out of five = pages over chapters (rounded to the nearest 10) Times The suspense level as a fraction over ten plus the amount of jokes over 3 Open brackets vilians over 2 + Idiot level ( the villains mistakes over 4) Close bracket

This means that the book gets more better over time suspense the joke amount, the villains

3) Write a feasible solution for a problem a character has that is different from anything suggested in the book?

I think that if they were to keep Simon (BAD) away and Jenna (GOOD) safe then they should hex the castle using a spell of sorts to prevent the entry of, and expunge all Daryke Magyk.

Reading Response: Magyk

December 8th, 2007 by grant04pd2013

I am now reading Magyk in the Septimus Heap series. These are the answers to the blogging questions.

Do you like the ending of the book? Why or why not? Do you think there is more to tell? What do you think might happen next?

I really liked the end of this book because it was a light hearted ending. It also explained every single little detail about every character in the book. I found that very helpful

If this book could be compared to a car, what model would it be and why?

It would be a Lamborghini Gallardo, a good car and preferable to the detail. I think this would be the car to compare to the book because I found the book very accurate and detailed. Not to mention a good book

I laugh aloud when…

They compare making some of the most powerful spells in the universe to toast. I find this simile very random not to mention hilarious.

Readin Response Blog: Magyk.

December 2nd, 2007 by grant04pd2013

I have started a new book called Magyk (correct spelling).

These are the response questions.

1) Choose a food that represents this book and explain why.

I choose a mystery cake, because I dont know quite what the story will be like, but I know it will be good

2)Discuss how…(character) shows his/her personality through the dialogue in the story.

I think Boy412 shows his personality through his dialogue alot. Currently he has no dialogue which reflects the fact that he has been treated harshly and unfairly in the Young Army and has to adapt to kindness from others.

3) What makes you wonder in this book? What confuses you?

I am confused about the words in bold, it looks as if they are words enforced with Magyk power, and have magical results. But their is no explanation right now. Hopefully later…
