Biome Research: America’s National Parks Face Challenges

This post is about a summary I wrote about an article about America’s National Park’s challenges and my opinion on it.

America’s National Parks Face Challenges

Vocabulary:

  • panorama
  • pristine
  • primeval

Summary:

The following CS Monitor article says that America’s National Parks are facing challenges like climate shifts and needed upkeep. Climate change is one of the great threats to the Rocky Mountains. Low-lying park properties could go underwater since the sea level rise about 2.5-4 feet. The Rocky Mountains could also lose a lot of lodgepole and whitebark to mountain pine beetles as they can survive at higher latitudes and elevation. Sooner or later, the parks may stop continuing the refuges unless we do something about the climate-change issue.

Another challenge the national parks face is needed upkeep. With the economy breakdown we’re having right now, there isn’t enough money to maintain the parks. Without maintenance, the parks will have to pay heavy bills. If they can’t pay the bills or keep maintaining the wildlife, the parks may end up shutting down. After the parks shutdown, we’ll have no natural systems or wildlife to study.

Opinion:

I think this is a major issue. If we keep make the climate-change impact bigger, we’ll end up losing our parks, we’ll have no nature to study, and the tourism businesses could also go down heavily. As inhabitants of Earth, we must learn how to protect it so we can keep on living in harmony. Animals could also go extinct because their habitats in the parks could be altered by the climate change and they’ll end up with no where to live.
