The Dream House Project was to create our Dream House that had 5 main highlights. First we used pencil then moved on to coloring with color pencils. The inspiration behind my dream house design was my friends. I wanted to have a place where my friends and I could just chill out and have a bunch of fun. If I could build my dream house anywhere in the world I would build it in Hawaii. I would build it in Hawaii, because there is always good weather and there are lots of beaches. So, I would build my house next to a beach.

1. Describe your overall work and progress in Chinese this year. I have learned and done a lot this year in Chinese. I have also made a lot of progress in writing and recognizing characters.
2. what have been your greatest strengths in learning Chinese? What are you proud of? My greatest strength is writing characters, and I am most proud of all my Chinese projects that I have done.
3. what have been your biggest challenges in learning Chinese? What areas do you think you need to improve on for next year? What strategies you can use? My biggest challenges have been in recognizing characters. I think I need to improve in recognizing and knowing radicals. I can choose 3 radicals a week and study them until the next week.
4. what are examples of your work in Chinese this year that you think reflect your progress and demonstrate your growth in this class? Give and explain 1-3 examples. 1 example is my china alive PowerPoint. I think it reflects my growth and learning because I did it all by myself and I spoke without many pauses. Another example is the skit I made with Nani and Jessica. We wrote the skit all by ourselves, and we used all the new vocabulary.

The God and Goddess cocktail party was really fun, even though we didnt have any cocktails. We had juice, soda, cookies and crackers instead. I also thought it was cool that we could just talk about our god, not write an essay about them. Here are some comments to a few of the gods:

I really liked your hair and costume Isis.

Thoth, I thought it was cool that you are the god of wisdom and knowledge.

Nephthys, I learned that you are the goddess of mourning. I also like your hat!

I liked your big blue star cape Nut, It really told me “Goddess of the Sky!”

Hi Geb, god of the Earth. I liked your duck mask!

It seems to me that Egyptians believed a lot in an afterlife, and that if you didnt preserve the dead they wouldnt have an afterlife.

  So, Ive learned a lot about mummification, and I know that there is a lot of steps to it. Here they are:

Step 1. The body is taken to Ibu (place of purification), and embalmers wash it with palm wine and is rinsed with the water form the nile.

Step 2. Embalmers make a cut in the left side of the body (this is where they remove all internal organs). The liver, lungs, stomach and the intestines are washed and packed in natron (dries them out…). The heart is kept in the body becuase it is needed in the afterlife. Then, they use a long hook to smash the brain and take it out.

Step 3. The body is stuffed and covered in natron. Also, all fluids and rags used during this process were saved and buried with the body.

Step 4. 40 days pass… After, the body is washed again with the water from the Nile and is covered in oils (helps skin stay elastic).

Step 5. The dehydrated organs are returned to the body, dried and wrapped in linen. Next, the body is stuffed with dry things (saw dust, leaves, linen), so it looks lifelike. Then, it is covered in oils again.

Step 6. The mummy is wrapped with strips of linen. Between layers amulets are placed to lhelp in the afterlife, while a priest reads out spells.

Step 7. A board of painted wood is put on top of the wrapped mummy, and the first coffin is placed into the second coffin.

Step 8. The funeral is held. Family and friends mourn for their loss.

Step 9. A ritual called the opening of the mouth ceremony is held. It allows the dead to eat, drink and speak again in the afterlife. Next, the body is placed in a sarcophagus.

See? Mummification is a long process that takes up to about 70 days! Im glad I had a chance to learn more about it!

This graph shows that the limo goes farther but the speedster goes faster. You can tell because on my graph, the majority of the limo’s trials for speed were above 15 seconds, but all of the speedster’s times were below 15 seconds. Also all the limo’s distance trials were 12, but the majority of the speedsters distance’s were below 10.

Hathor pics

Name of god/goddess- Hathor (Sekhmet)
God/Goddess of- joy, motherhood, love, beauty, music, singing and dancing. She can sometimes be known as the goddess of the dead and destruction or moisture. Also she can be “The lady of turquoise”
Responsibilities include-she looked after all women, especially pregnant women. While she is Goddess of the dead she hands out water to the deceased from a sycamore tree, which makes her a goddess of moisture as well as of the dead.
Symbols-cow, lioness, falcon, cobra, hippopotamus, sistrum (a rattle), musical instruments, drums, pregnant women, mirrors, cosmetics, papyrus reed, snake
Describe appearance-a woman with the head of a cow, or a woman wearing cow horns and a sundisk/solardisk in between the horns. She usually wears turquoise jewelry. Hathor carries around an ankh and a sceptor.

Related mythology-As the sun god Ra got older he grew fearful of his enemies and asked Hathor to help him. She took the job and turned into Sekhmet, the lioness goddess. She killed men and drank their blood, and the funny thing is that she seemed to enjoy the killing. She started to scare Ra, who only wanted to discourage Mankind, not kill them all. So he dyed some beer red, to make it look like blood. When Sekhmet saw the beer she thought it was blood so she drank it all. When she woke up she was poisoned or intoxicated so much that she forgot her task, and mankind was saved!

Dressing Up…

• Make jewelry out of card board and maybe some plastic jewelry with turquoise coloring because Hathor is sometimes known as “the lady of turquoise”
•  Make an ankh and a scepter out of card board
•  Cow horns with a sun disk or a solar disk in between them, made of cardboard.
•  Black wig   

1.What are the main changes I need to make (be specific and use terms such as rear/front axle, Kevlar string, wooden side rails, friction, etc) in order to maximize the distance that my car will travel in a straight line? I need to decrease friction so my car wont get as much resistance while moving forward. I will try to reduce the friction, where the axles touch the wood. I will do this, by making the hole wider, or putting soap on the wood

2. Why is working with my partner important in making sure that our car will perform to its best capabilities? How is this done? Working with my partner is important in making sure that our car will perform to its best capabilities, because some things need to have 2 people for it to work. When you wind the kevlar string around the axle, you need one person to slowly push the lever, and the other person winds.

3.What details will we need to be careful of in making our next car (little Mo!) this week? We need to be careful when we are gluing the mousetrap body together. You need to do this, because if you don’t glue it straight your mousetrap car will go sideways or all over the place.

4.Were there any details in the Instruction Guide that were left out when you were building your cars?  (in other words, could you have built your car by reading and following the instructions completely?) Explain. I think there was one detail left out. We forgot to put the metal washers before the rubber washers on the axle. So we had to take the wheels of and put them on.

Funny, how so many things can change in such a short amount of time,
