In this stress unit I have learned that stress s your body’s way of reacting to a potentially dangerous situation. I have also learned that stress can be caused by internal stressors (pressure on yourself) or external stressors (weather.) Even thought stress is generally associated as being bad we learned that it can also be good and help us do things better or even save our lives. Next I learned that stress can be of three types, acute, episodic, or chronic. Acute stress is very sudden and normally invoke the “fight or flight” responce. Episodic stress lasts longer than acute but is still manageable. Lastly, chronic stress are very long term and are dangerous since they can do physical or emotional damage over that time. Within these categories it can be split again into two groups, normative and non-normative. Normative stress is caused by something you expect to happen at your age so for me death of a grandparent. Non-normative stress is the opposite and is caused by things that are not expected at your age (death of parent.) Lastly, I learned about stress outlets, coping with stress, and things that don’t help with stress like caffine or nicotine.
