I’m outside, in my garden, with my mac working on language arts. And it is hot, and by hot I mean REALLY HOT. There are barely any clouds. When I look around there are only like one or two small puffs of clouds. I’ve been out here since like 9:40am ish? And the temperature just keeps getting hotter and hotter. I mean, its so hot it could be a freakin desert! But I’m glad every once in a while there is a nice cool breeze.
YEAH! I nearly finished my showcase site for language arts. All I have left to do is the China Alive (special day) essay, and finish my free flow response for the book Savvy. Savvy is a really good book. I totally recommend it. T.T. let me borrow it and it was SOOOO GOOD!!
Anyways, back to language arts… I think I have to do the letter from the editor for the showcase site, not just the magazine. I will have to double check that with one of my friends of something.
School is nearly done! I’m so happy, but sad. I’m happy because, I mean, NO.MORE.SCHOOL! It’s just awesome! Plus I’m going to Venice, Malan and other places in Europe. I’m also going to Australia to stay with my grandparents for a while, then I’m going to another place in Australia (Townsville) to look at Townsville Grammar (the school I’m booked at that I will go to either after 8th grade, or during my high school years) and look at the houses there for when we move back. The sad part is that I’m leaving the sunday right after school ends. (It ends on a half day on Thursday) So I guess its pretty early. Also, I’ll be away from all my friends. Also a lot of my holiday in Europe will be touring and looking at history x( . History… isn’t really my thing…
Well I guess I better get back to working on my language arts homework.

Okay, I am copying this EXACTLY from my deviantart journal entry.
I’ve made a mistake today, and I wish I could take it back. I’ve done something to my crush, and now he hates me. I beg for a miracle.
We had a dance tonight, and I danced with someone in front of him (and I did NOT like that dance) and then now he’s mad at me. I feel horrible, and I really wish to take it back.
So if he’s reading this: I’m sorry. ![]()

I AM WHO I AM – SHORT STORY BY CLARE MELVIN
As Kayla Miller walked past the school gates, she sighed. It was another day of torture for her. Kayla gazed back at the school gates and an old memory popped into her head.
Little kids were running around the playground, laughing and giggling. Kayla walked up to the school gates. A little girl who had seen her ran up to her.
“Hi! Are you in first grade?” The little girl asked. Kayla shyly nodded. “Me too!” The little girl started jumping. “Do you want to be friends?” Kayla nodded again. The two kids ran to the playground smiling.
The memory kept playing in her head like a video on repeat.
“Why” Kayla thought, “Why don’t I have friends anymore?” Kayla pulled her loose hot pink tracksuit pants up, and looked at her watch. It read 7:58.
“Oh no! I’m going to be late!” Kayla gasped and went on a full sprint to reach her home base in time. She arrived at her home base on time, but was gasping for air. She sat in her seat, and remained quiet while her home base teacher read the announcements. It was the same things, no gaming in the hallways, bake sales for charity and so on. Kayla yawned as her teacher kept reading. She wished she could whisper to one of the girls in her home base about the morning announcements and how lame it was, but she couldn’t. All the girls in her home base didn’t like her. They would just give a glance and giggle. It wasn’t just the home base girls that laughed at her; it was every single girl in the entire 7th grade. Kayla was most sure it was because of the fact of the style of clothing she wore. Kayla thought that it was what popular kids wore. Obviously, she was wrong, because the popular kids just laughed at the thought of hot pink tracksuit pants and a rainbow color cardigan. Today however, one of the popular kids really just wanted to burst Kayla’s bubble. During lunch, Abby Minola went up to Kayla.
“Kayla, you should stop.” Kayla blinked up at her.
“Stop what?” Kayla asked looking confused.
“Don’t play like an idiot. Stop looking like a dork duh!” Abby snorted.
“What do you mean?” Kayla stuttered.
“Your clothes are hideous! Why do you wear them? Seriously! They’re terrible! You have to stop wearing the make up. You’re putting it on wrong and it makes you look ugly. Well, not that you already aren’t. Honestly, stop trying to look like us.” Abby gave an evil laugh and walked away. Kayla could feel her heart breaking into thousands of pieces. Never had the popular people actually said something that horrible to her face. Kayla slowly got up, while everyone was staring at her, put her tray away, and walked out of the cafeteria, with her head held high. She may have looked brave, but inside her heart was torn into too many little pieces to count. All through math and end home base, Kayla lost interest. Instead she just daydreamed. She dreamed about how life would be if she were popular. People would look up to her for advice. She would be the wise one. Kayla smiled at the thought, but realized that she was unpopular in reality and people made fun of her and her clothes. At the end of the day, Kayla slowly packed her stuff up, locked her locker and headed for home. When she passed through the door into the fresh air, Abby walked past and snickered at her. Kayla looked at her, and her eyes stung. Her eyes filled up with tears and she broke into a sprint all the way home. Kayla entered her house with tears flowing down her face. Kayla’s mom was making muffins in the kitchen when she heard a slam coming from downstairs.
“Kayla? Is that you?” Mrs. Miller asked. She only heard a sob. Mrs. Miller checked the oven, and headed down the stairs, she found her daughter dumping her stuff, and taking her shoes off. Her head was facing the floor. “Kayla, sweetie, what’s wrong?” Mrs. Miller looked concerned. Kayla looked up at her, and her face was stained with tears. Kayla ran up to her and gave her a tight hug.
“Mom, they hate me!” Kayla bawled. “Everyone at school hates me!” Mrs. Miller was distressed at her daughter’s behavior. She had never seen her like this. Mrs. Miller led her daughter to the living room, and made her sit on the couch. She then made a nice hot cup of hot chocolate. As joined Kayla on the couch, she asked: “Okay, what’s going on?” Kayla started to cry.
“Mom, everyone at school hates me. I just wanted to have friends, and I wanted to become popular, but they all hate me!” Kayla explained. “I wear the kind of clothes I was wearing today, and twhen they all laugh. They think I’m a dork. They all hate me!” Kayla hugged her mom again, and her mom stroked Kayla’s hair.
“Oh sweetie. Calm down. Now, do you like the clothes you wear?”
“No, not really. I thought the popular kids wore them, but then they just laugh.” Kayla replied.
“I’ve also noticed you wear make up. Do you want to wear make up?”
“The popular kids wear it at school, so I thought why not, but then they all just laugh at me.” Mrs. Miller thought about what advice to give her child. Then something came into her head.
“Kayla, its simple. You don’t like the way you dress, and you don’t like make up either. Just don’t wear it if you don’t want to. You need to be your self! It doesn’t matter what people think, as long as you love your self.” Kayla nodded but still looked like she wasn’t sure.
“Mom, I’m scared… that they might not like who I am inside.”
“Kayla, it doesn’t matter what they think of you. As long as you are yourself.” Kayla’s eyes widened, as she understood what her mother was saying.
“Your right mom. Thank you for the great advice. I now know what to do.” Kayla hugged her mom one more time and headed for the stairs. She turned around. “Oh and thanks mom, for the hot chocolate.” Mrs. Miller smiled at her. Kayla went upstairs to her room, and opened her closet; she looked deep into the closet and found a box. The box titled: “Normal Clothes”. Kayla opened the box and picked out an aqua blue t-shirt and a normal pair of jeans.
“This” Kayla thought, “is what I want to wear.” She smiled happily.
“Swim Tryouts! At 3:00pm to 4:30, make either red team or blue! Sign up now!” Read a poster in the 7th grade hallway. Some of the popular kids were staring at it, while Kayla tried to get through. When she saw the sign, she felt supremely excited. She loved to swim! Swimming was her favorite sport, apart from floor hockey.
“Do you think you’re going to try out?” Alicia Simons, one of the popular girls, asked Kayla. Kayla was caught off guard. Never had any popular girl talked to Kayla so nicely.
“Yeah. How about you?” Kayla replied.
“Yep. I love to swim.” Alicia smiled. Suddenly, the bell rang and Kayla headed for math class. Instead of thinking about slope intercept form, Kayla thought about the swim tryouts and what Alicia had said to her today. Why was Alicia so nice to Kayla? Abby must have put Alicia up to something. Kayla just shook her head, and put it behind her.
Kayla walked up to the aquatics center and got changed into her swimsuit. There were quite a lot of kids in the pool. Kayla wondered how many of the kids would actually make it into either blue or red.
“Miss Miller. Please come up to the diving blocks.” A voice boomed in the aquatics center. Kayla walked up to the diving blocks and met up with the swimming coach.
“Okay, I want you to swim the 200 IM. So 50 meters of each stroke.” The swimming coach instructed. Kayla couldn’t help but smirk.
“200 IM? Easy.” She thought. She stepped up to the diving blocks and waiting for the beep. As soon as she heard the beep, she dived into the cold, but fresh water. Kayla swam her butterfly kind of slow, but still has best as she could so she could keep her energy. As she flipped to backstroke, she sighed. She loves backstroke the most, it was her 3rd favorite stroke. Kayla did a turn to breaststroke, just nearly missing the chance to hit her head on the wall of the swimming pool on her backstroke. She loved breaststroke, it was a nice, fun and easy stroke. It was a great way to prepare for her freestyle. As Kayla did a flip turn onto freestyle she heard a crowd cheering. She smiled in the water and did a full on sprint. She could see the coach in the water mouthing for to pull. Kayla pulled harder, and sprinted as hard as she could to finish. With a huge pull, she pushed her hand onto the wall. Kayla got out of the pool and took the swim cap off her head, and shook her hair. Her long red hair fell to her rib line. The swimming coach came up to Kayla.
“Wow Kayla! That was really impressive! I can tell you are going to be on the blue team! You’re going to be able to go to Bangkok, Beijing, and other amazing places!” Kayla beamed with pure joy. Blue team? This would be amazing! She couldn’t wait to tell her mom. She would just be so proud! Alicia ran up to Kayla. She had a wide smile on her face.
“Oh my gosh Kayla! That was incredible!” Alicia awed.
“Really?” Kayla looked shocked at Alicia.
“Yes! It was amazing! I have never seen someone swim so fast! You should help me improve sometime!” Alicia said. Alicia beamed at Kayla. She really did look like she was being friendly.
“Thanks Alicia!” Kayla said. They both smiled at each other and talked all through try-outs. As Alicia was about to leave, Kayla grabbed onto Alicia’s shoulder.
“Hey Alicia?” Kayla asked.
“How about we both get together and I’ll help you with swim training?”
“Kayla! That would be wonderful! Thank you!” Alicia pulled Kayla into a hug.
“Anytime for a friend.” Kayla smiled.
“Finally” Kayla thought. “I have a friend.”
