Floods O_o August 29, 2010

OMG FLOOOOOD EVERYONEEEEE RUNNNNNNN D: I KNOW that the topic ‘flood’ is very common and somewhat boring and you guys were expecting things like analysis on microbes that eat oil spills…. BUT … BUT… .. currently, there are way too many floods in the world.. and it’s hard to ignore them.
Article: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=is-the-flooding-in-pakist
Nowadays, we developed the technology to predict floods. With this people think they’ll be safe, but the truth is.. even if we can predict, there’s not enough time to escape or get ready. The disaster experts say ”Floods are classified according to their likelihood of occurring in a given time period.” Some take 100 years to develop, and the flood will be MASSIVE. Some floods generate so quickly without any warning. The flood that forms quickly will be smaller in size, but they’ll all cause lots of harm. Water has a powerful destructive force. Bridges, houses, trees, and cars can all disappear in a second with a single overflown river. So, that concludes to the fact that all kinds of floods are all VERY dangerous.
The reason why I’m bringing up the whole news about ‘floods’ are because floods are occurring very often these days. There are floods all over the world, but especially the floods in Pakistan and China were deadly. The article I read specifies the flood that happened in Pakistan recently. The flood has swiped out one fifth of Pakistan and caused millions of people to loose their homes. This flood is considered as one of the worst natural disasters in the world history. These kind of massive natural disasters/floods not only happened in Pakistan, but also in many other places in the world. For a close example China is also experiencing these terrible floods as well. Recently, there has been lots of trouble with these natural disasters and there’s a reason why. It’s because of GLOBAL WARMING. Everyone knows about global warming, but a lot of people doesn’t know the exact causes of global warming. Well, floods are one of them. The same weather phenomena caused the heat waves in Russia, and the mudslides/floods in China! This is a BIG problem that will soon kill the Earth, because disasters like the flood that happened in Pakistan is only a warning of more natural disasters.
How does this relate to us?
This relates to us because the day we might get caught into one of these floods or natural disasters isn’t that far away. We’re also related to this because we are part of the main people who causes global warming, and also the people who can stop them. If we try to reduce the times we go on vehicles that produce CO2 and all other things that cause global warming, we might be able to stop some natural disasters around the world. Little things we do MIGHT make a difference, so we must be aware of these news and think of ways to stop them. AFTER ALL, if this keeps on going it will reach to us, and we will be effected.
Questions….:
1. Is global warming the only reason for the natural disasters (in specific floods)?
2. Does the hole in the ozone layer another reason for global warming?
3. Will the numbers of natural disasters such as floods increase more and more in the future?

apsh…… hai people.
okay.. soooooo XD
Three things I learned in science this year:
1. LOTS OF SCIENCE
yeah.
-I learned lots of different concepts, and also reviewed some things I learned last year by relearning some of the same stuff.. Personally, I enjoyed learning the human body the most. It was very interesting.. and fun
2. how to write lab reports -____-
We did about two lab reports. Before, I didn’t know what a lab report IS, but now I guess I’m pretty good with it. YAY….. I can write lab reports now. hahaha. ha……..
3. and uh.. how to cooperate with your lab partner.
All the labs were conducted with a partner, or in a group. It helped me cooperate more, and it also helped me make new friends. XD (roseanne… yeah. she has been my lab partner for the whole year
and now we’re close friends.. at least I consider her a close friend) ahahaha… yayayayay~
Structure of my soul.. :) May 31, 2010

The quality of this photo is really bad, so… I hope all of you guys understand
This sculpture represents how my soul is structured together, and it also represents what’s in my brain. It basically shows what I’m usually thinking about, and what I really enjoy to do.
For this sculpture, I used materials such as foam core, cutting knife, spray paint, hot glue gun, and magazines. I used the cutting knife to cut the foam core to make my life size symbols, and then i used hot glue gun to put them together. Then, I used spray paint for color and cut out some words from the magazine to represent myself. These symbols are all very unique symbols I made up for what I really like. These symbols represent my family, friends, music, manga
, art, and nature. I combined these symbols because I wanted to show the viewers what’s going on in my mind, and what I usually enjoy to do/think about.
I discovered my likes and dislikes during this project, and I also realized how much I love what all of my symbols represent. I feel that my work shows a great map of my brain/soul and basically represents… ME! ANYWAYS… During the creation of this sculpture, I found out that foam cores are REALLY hard to work with. It took me a VERY long time to cut all my symbols out, and I had to put a lot of effort in it to make them smooth. Overall, I had lots of fun in this project, but it required lots of effort and time.
YAY…..
Artist’s Statement Research May 31, 2010

What is an artist’s statement?
An artist’s statement is a short piece of writing by the author explaining the feelings/thoughts expressed while creating the artwork, and the meaning behind the artwork.
What is the purpose of an artist’s statement?
The purpose of an artist’s statement is to help the viewers better understand your artwork, as well as for you. It’ll help you discover more about the artwork you created, and also will take you to knew artistic directions in your mind.
How long should the artist’s statement be?
Preferably somewhere around 100 words, but one page is the limit. No matter how long they are, if it doesn’t say what you feel/think then it won’t be a good artist’s statement. It should be kind of short, and it should explain clearly of your opinions, not what other’s opinions.
Who will be the intended audience of your artist’s statement?
Basically, the whole world? Since it’s on my blog, everyone in the world can access it, so… BUT, mainly I think my intended audience will be my friends, and the art teachers. YEAH…
What are five strategies artists can use to begin the process of writing an artist’s statement?
1. YAY! Let’s be nerds and read the dictionary! XD It seems kind of ‘nerdy’, but it’s a great way to start. You can just write down some words that interests you, and it just might give you a start to writing your artist’s statement.
2. Give yourself a ‘quiet’ time. This sometimes helps you fall into deeper thinking, and it also brings out the inner you. (:
3. Try the alien exercise. It’s a way to awaken your imagination! What would you do if an alien bursted into your work place? hmmm… *interesting* This exercise might help you think of ideas to put in your artist’s statement.
4. Create an environment that is comfortable for you. If you’re in an uncomfortable place, it’s probably harder for you to write. Change around some things, turn off the electronics and start writing. This will help you write a bit more conductively.
5. Have something to write on at ALL IME!! When an idea pops in your head, you MUST write it down instantly. If you don’t, you won’t be able to remember it again, and you’ll have a harder time starting your artist’s statement.
What is the best way for you to start your Window to the Soul Sculpture artist’s statement?
I think the best way for me is to get an environmental set for writing. My desk is always very messy, and unorganized. Just by cleaning that up might clear my mind up as well!

XD I was going to tweak the colors a bit, but I decided not to, because it made the whole photo blue and weird… ANYWAYS…JOURNAL April 11, 2010

“I would do anything for you,” she whispered. I was confused. Very confused. ‘Why would anyone want to do something for me?’ I thought. I was curious of why people would do so much for something that is not for them self.
Way back when I was born, I met her. She was more caring then anyone else in this world. Her warm smile could even melt ice, and it melted my heart as well. She did everything she could for me, and I got everything I wanted. Well fed, with plenty of education, and over flowing love. I really didn’t need anything else.
I’ve always been admiring her since I was young. Her power of healing was overwhelming. When I grew up, I wanted to be like her. I wanted her generous heart, and the smile she had on her face. Everything she did to me was helping, and nothing seemed so harmful when she stood beside me.
She was always around when I needed her. I was never abandoned or left alone. When I was hurt, I’d go to her. For a treatment so special, that no one knew of. I just stood and waited, for the words to come. The words to come and heal me. It went through my ears, brain and soul, and soon there was a solution to all my troubles. My mind was healed in a blink of an eye, and everything seemed perfect when I was around her.
People can be nice, but not all can be real. That’s why even angels need some moments of truth. Sometimes she screams at me, and remind me of problems I dislike. It’s really a pain to listen to someone so nice, throw words of annoyance at you. That’s why I really, truly, hate her at those times.
Still wondering why she’s my favorite person? It’s because she cares about me. I know for sure, not everyone in this world wants to care about what I do, and how my life is going on. No one wants to get the stress of worrying about someone else other then themselves, because they’re all too busy thinking for their own life.
So I realized. She’s one of the people in this world who care about me for real. Who doesn’t mind the stress of worrying about someone else. That’s why we’re bonded4 with trust forever. She’s always my number one favorite. MOM.
Window to MY soul. April 7, 2010
Posted by arial01pd2015 in Art.add a comment
This project is one of my favorites out of all the projects we did through out the year so far. I think it was a great way to express/show what we’re thinking, and what’s inside of our ’soul’. The first step to this project was to brainstorm different symbols we can find in our daily life. The brainstorming part was pretty easy. We thought of millions of different symbols and drew them down on the paper. What was hard was to think of our OWN symbols that didn’t exist already. Of course, before making our own symbols, we made a page in our art workbook of things we like, dislike, or value. After that, we explored around, and used our imagination, to make new symbols of our own that meant for the things in our ’soul’.
My 6 symbols didn’t mean for anything really ’special’. The symbols I made were meant for music, friends, MANGA!, family, and nature. HOW DID I MAKE MY SYMBOLS?:
1. I thought about the characteristics of the things I listed: MUSIC, FRIENDS, MANGA, FAMILY, AND NATURE
2. I used the characteristics I thought of and put them into a small.. eh.. um. drawing ..
3. I took the detailed parts out of the drawing and made the drawing much simpler.
4. YAY I MADE A SYMBOL!
We also took pictures of ourselves for a reference when we draw our self portrait. We put our picture next to the big paper (our final work), and copied our face right onto the paper using the guide lines (that we drew before) to help us. After we drew our self portrait on the paper, we traced it with black pen, and started to draw our symbols on.
After drawing in our symbols, we used water color to blend the symbols into the background, so it isn’t so noticeable. We used our ‘water color skills’ that we practiced in class before, and explored with our brush. Painting our symbols and background with different colors and shades.
The most FUN and interesting part of this project was… ummmm…… PAINTING! Exploring with different shades of water color was SO much fun. Using different tools such as sponges, paper towels, and brushes of all sizes really helped me to find out how to put texture on my plain paper, to make it stand out a little more.
The most difficult thing about this project was thinking of symbols. At first, I kept on drawing the symbols that already existed, and it was really hard to find my OWN symbol. But soon enough, I managed to create own ones, that were easy to draw, and copy.
If I had a chance to change this project, I would use more vivid colors. Well, I DID use vivid colors, but I don’t think they were solid enough to be seen. My painting is generally ‘fading ish’ and there are lots of white spaces. If I ever get to redo my project, I would make my colors a bit more solid, so they can stand out.
I <3ed WORKING ON THIS PROJECT.
IT
