Phil Bildner
Phil Blidner came to SAS(my school) as a visiting author. He came with Kevin Lewis and I already wrote about him on another post. Today my class was so lucky Phil Blidner came to my classroom and at the end he signed everyone’s writer’s notebook and gave us a Slugger’s poster that he signed. He talked about his process of his books. Phil is very funny and he talks real fast. Here is some information about him:
Phil is 44 years old. He grew up outside of New York in a long island called Jericho. He went to college in Baltimore, and attended John Hopkins University and got an undergraduate degree in political science. Then he decided to go to law school to become a lawyer. He went to the New York University School of Law. After that he got a job at one of the Manhattan law firms, but in less than a year he realized that he didn’t enjoy this it wasn’t what he wanted to do. He had always loved teaching and loved to work with kids. A teacher, it was what he needed to be, so he went back to school but this time got a master degree for elementary education. For the first five years he taught 5th and 6th grade in the Tremont section of the South Bronx. At that school they were missing a lot of the basics like, paper, pencils, and chalk for the blackboard. He transferred to The Manhattan School for Children. While he was working at MSC his first picture book came out. Then in 2006 he left the classroom and became a full time writer now he has a lot of books. Phil has been visiting schools all around the world.

Kevin Lewis
By: Shayna and Alison
Do you like Dav Pilkey? Well Kevin Lewis, who helped Dav Pilkey write most of his books, visited our school today. For example “Captain Underpants” and “The Dumb Bunny”. Kevin Lewis also helped write “The Spiderwick Chronicles”. His favorite sport is baseball.
Kevin Lewis grew up on a farm in South Carolina. He was the youngest of six children. His older brothers always tricked him. When he was young he always participated in writing competitions, even if he didn’t win. His favorite series at that time was “The Great Brain”.
Kevin Lewis went to college and studied to be a lawyer. He read lots of books, which made him, change his mind to be a writer.
Kevin Lewis currently lives in Brooklyn, New York and works for Disney. Right now he doesn’t enjoy reading books anymore he rather do something else. He is very humorous but his boss wasn’t. Dav Pilkey had the same boss as Kevin Lewis. Dav shared his ideas about Captain Underpants but his boss didn’t approve. Kevin pairs up Dav and their boss finally agreed.

Social issues
In my class, we have been learning about social issues. A social issue is a problem or concern among people. We discussed three different types of social issues. There are global ones, community ones and personal ones. Social issues can be very common in life, it will happen in our everyday life, it doesn’t matter what type global, community or personal. We are reading social issue books. A book that I got was called Stargirl. The social issue in my book was about a girl that is in high school but was different than everyone else. At first everyone is enchanted but then they turn on her. Leo Borlock (the main character) for some strange reason falls in love with Stargirl. He starts hanging out with her but no one talks to him anymore. There are many adventures in this story but you must read it to find out. This is a magical enchanting and heartbreaking tale. I am not the greatest at explaining this story but trust me you will never regret reading this book.
Class Hamster
I got to take care of the class hamster over spring break. I am going to write a thing that I did with my class hamster over spring break.
Last week on Friday my best friend was coming over so she told me to pick her up from Carrefour at 8:30. My grandma and I were going to pick her up so we had to wake up at 7:00 so we could get some shopping at Carrefour done. I kept the hamster in my room for the night. In the morning my grandma woke me up, the first thing I did was look at the hamster. I walked over to the cage and surprisingly the hamster wasn’t there. I told my grandma and then we listened carefully for the hamster. The strange part was that I didn’t hear a single sound in my room. We decided that it was going to be no use if we just wait. I checked under my bed, behind the curtains I looked everywhere I could think of but he wasn’t there. My grandma looked behind my desk the hamster was there! We tried to grab the hamster but it ran behind the curtains then when we tried to grab it but it ran again. Later it ran toward the door and my grandma quickly caught it. We put him back in the cage and I sighed “What a relief.
”
This is a picture me holding the hamster. He wouldn’t stay.

An Art Project
If you are bored you want to do an art project I have a good idea for you. Take a piece of sand paper (as big as you want). Use crayons to color the sand paper try not to leave any of the sand paper showing. Take a white piece of paper then iron it on. The crayon’s color will come of from sand paper. It will look really cool.
