Sometimes I Wear Emotions

In my earliest memories, my first thought was happiness.  I remembered: a family, three people, playing in a park on a sunny day, laughter and smiles hanging on everyone’s face.  A lovely and beautiful scenery.  Every piece of memoir, each one has a different emotion.  Although time has past, things had changed, some of us had loosen our emotions and memories, I still want to tell each person that emotions is an important part of life.  Everyone has memories between  happiness, fear, alone, and anger.  Some of them are hard to forget, even just a flash of smile, or a drop of tear.  I wrote down three of my most often emotion stories as a poem, hope you enjoy!

Happiness is the most enjoyable feeling.  A life without happiness won’t mean anything.  Happiness can be anywhere, at home, on the streets, in a park.  It is the most beautiful emotion in my life.  During my kid’s life, happiness is one of my “main”, every moment, every second, is full of happiness.  From parent’s love to friendship, from toys to games, happiness always guides my way.

Sometimes I Wear Happiness

Happiness is the key to every gate.
It is a pair of wings that blows every dark cloud away from me.
The warmest, biggest hug in the coldest winter,
A tasteful dinner,
A funny joke,
Happiness is the most successful creation in the world.
Every piece of love,
Every bedtime story,
Every new present,
All has the blessing of happiness.
Happiness is a growing flower,
A never-ending fairy tale,
A sweet, and lovely song.
Happiness makes my life colorful, true.
It makes every thing seemed so interesting,
It makes every smiling memory looked fresh and new.
If life doesn’t have happiness,
Then the world will seem pale and gray.

Anger is the most uncontrollable feeling.  Sometimes, I can control anger, but sometimes, it can drive me crazy.  It is hard to feel pain when I am angry and anger also makes me powerful.  In the ancient time, anger is what a warrior needs, but right now, it is only called “impolite”.  Anger is also very important me, I can get a lot of experience from it.  People who can’t take any temple mostly can’t be trusted, because they can’t live with failure.  Only people who knows when they should be angry, and when they shouldn’t, can rule this world.

Sometimes I Wear Anger

Anger is a time bomb in everyone’s heart.
An uncontrollable thermometer.
A pot of boiling water,
A rushing bull,
Anger makes people impatient, losing the ability to decide.
It makes a minute seemed like a day,
It makes my vision seemed cloudy, can only think of the things in front of me.
Anger has two kinds of ways to use,
It can become power,
Or destructions.

Alone is the most helpless feeling.  It’s like letting me sink into a dark pond, stopping me from getting close to others, not giving me even half a chance.  Alone is always a mask that comes to me when I got to a new place.  I can rather choose to wear it forever, or give it a try to take it off.  Sometimes others can help me, but the last pull is up to me to decide.

Sometimes I Wear Alone

Alone is a shadow, following me from time to time,
A dark, a cold hand, grabbing me away from the laughers,
A lock keeping my words in my throat,
A silent chair at the corner of the table,
A dead tie,
A dark lamp,
Alone makes me painful, freezing, and helpless,
It makes the time with others seemed like the sky pressing on my shoulders,
The words seemed to be knives made out of ice striking through me,
It makes everything dark, so far away from me.
Alone is a hole in the coat,
If I don’t sew it,
Then it will get bigger and bigger,
Until it can’t be reformed.

Memoir Collection

Memoir is a part of memory in your life.  It is not like a Biography, but a small moment, a moment you will never forget.  here is my memoir collections from 5~12 years old.  I had wanted to write it a long time ago.  Now everyone can see my pieces of memories of my kid’s life, enjoy.

What You Know First

I remembered vividly back in Canada, when I was only 7, I had my first dog.  His name is Diego, coming from Dora which I really liked watching when I was a small kid.  A strong, handsome and healthy golden labrador, Diego was my new year present from Dad, also the best gift I ever had.  Only 2 months old, Diego was a big dog for his kind, about 40cm in full height.  I had a wonderful week with him, in those 7 days, so many things had happened…

Because I was moving back to China , Mom had to sell him.  “Selling is better than giving away, because people who pay to own him shows more responsibilities,”  I was told.   But saying goodbye was still never the easy thing to do.  Unevitably,  the stormy night came: after Diego accompanied me eating my last dinner, two young fellows came and knocked on our door.  When Mom was explaining Diego’s food and his habits, I spent my last few minutes with my dog.  We stared at each other.  In his deep, dark eyes, I saw the memories of us playing snowboards, walking in the park, and wrestling each other.  When it was the moment for him to leave, I felt my ears burning, my cheeks bright red, my eyes full of pain, sadness and tears.  Diego looked back at me, and looked at his new owner.  I thought he’d understand his situation.  I wanted to run toward him, but I forced myself to stay.  I ran in to the living room, and began sobbing.  A minute later, with a final “woof” of Diego’s, he had gone.

I Am A …

I Am A Contemplater

I am contemplater,

I dream of the future and memory the past.

I free my mind and push away distractions.

I hold the time,

I think of the things around me,

I am a contemplater.

I Am A Canadian

I am a Canadian.

I shake the snow off every pine tree,

I lie on the ground and make “snow angels”,

I watch the country from the C.N. tower.

I listen to the yelling of the Niagra Waterfall.

I am a seagull, gliding over the Eastern Beach.

A moose running through the forest,

Or maybe a beaver, building a warm house the clearest river.

I am a soldier, riding on the strongest horse and protecting my country.

I am a hockey player, shooting a goal and making the crowd scream.

I am a Canadian.

My Imaginary Country

I am the king of this country.  I rule the sky and the sea.  I rule everything on this land.  Now come, I shall introduce you my wonderful land.

Before I finish building this country, I make the laws at first.  No trading.  This is one of the “species” in my country.  The government gives everything.  A place of no richness and poor, a place of every man can have fairness.

Food is also one of my problems when I built this country.  Everyone knows that when a country run out of foods, a country dies.  The Food Batteries is one of my greatest inventions, it can charge into my body when I hold it.  The battery contains vegetable, meat, beans, water, milk, egg and all sort of energy I need to keep my body healthy.  To recharge the battery, I just need to put it in the sunlight.  It uses a solar system, so the food will never run out.

The solar system caught my interest.  One day, I came to the highest spot of my country, and announced, “Make every machine using solar system, everything!”  From that on, all the cars, planes, trains and all of the machines, vehicles turned out to be using solar.  “What if it rained for months, or a storm came to the country, what would you do?”  Someone might ask me.  But don’t worry; I’ll explain that later.  The solar system restores the sunlight as energy; so that means no expensive gas and electricity, only free sunshine for everyone.

Now here is the most special thing of my country.  It can fly in the sky.  Not like the birds flying through trees.  It is actually floating in the sky.  The whole city will land on the ground for a week in every month, and the rest of the time, it will float in the sky, and find another new home.  This is the best way to avoid natural disasters and wars.  Because the distance is so high, even the cloud is below my country.  So it will never rain on my land.

My country still has a lot of amazing places waiting for people to find out.  When I was thinking of the name for my country, I thought about that old Greek story.  So I named after that city, Hanging Gardens Of Babylon The 2nd.

Rick Riordan Pulls Us Into The World Of Imagination

When I realized how long I had been reading this book, I was shocked.  Two hours has past, and I didn’t even notice.  Rick Riordan pulls us into the world of his imagination by crafting exciting adventure stories, giving us the hypothetical answer to our questions, and telling us of the hero’s and God’s sadness, pain and anger.  He is the American Best Known Author and an expert at the Ancient Greek stories.  His cool writing style always captures the reader’s interest, and makes us picture the stories, just like watching a movie.  He has published the Percy Jackson series, the Heroes Of Olympus series, 10 books in the 39 Clues series, the Tres Navarre series, Kane Chronicles and the Stand Alone Novels.  He also has the Shamus, Edgar, Rebecca Caudill, School Library Journal’s Best Look, two Mark Twain and two Children’s Choice Book award.

Rick Riordan’s most famous book is The Lightning Thief in the Percy Jackson & Olympus series.  It has won the Rebecca Caudill and the Mark Twain award.  The book is about a half–blood child called Percy Jackson.  Not the kind of half bloods that their parents have different nationalities; it’s the half human—and half God!  In the book, Greek Gods are actually real; they’re all around us.  Percy is the son of the one of the powerful three Gods—Poseidon.  Once, he was taken to a summer camp, where all half bloods, demigods and satyrs live.  Percy Jackson was sent on a quest to find Zeus’s missing lightning bolt.  He fought with monsters, talked to Gods, and saved friends from danger.  Finally, after endlessly hardships, he returned the lightning bolt to Mt. Olympus and saved the world from World War III.  The Lightning Thief crafted the Greek stories and our world together and created an exciting adventure world.

The Sea Of Monsters is also one of Rick’s excellent stories.  It has also won the Mark Twain Award.  It is the second book of the Percy Jackson series.  When Percy’s friend Grover- a brave satyrs, went on a quest searching for the lost Nature God Pan, he got trapped at the Sea Of Monsters and send dream messages to Percy.  Percy and his friends went on searching for Grover and found out The Sea Of Monsters is actually the Bermuda Triangle, the place where thousands of ships and airplanes disappears and no human ever dare to go in.  They found Grover is trapped by the evil Cyclops Polyphemus and fought with him.  They also found the Golden Fleece that can cure Zeus’s daughter Thalia’s poisoned magical tree.  After they returned to Camp Half-Blood, they cured Thalia’s tree and saved Camp Half-Blood from being overrun by monsters. The Sea Of Monsters uses mysteries around us and mysteries in the Greek Stories and gives us the hypothetical answer to our questions.

The Book I am reading now is called The Battle Of The Labyrinth.  It is the Forth Book of The Percy Jackson series.  The Labyrinth is a huge maze built by the genius inventor Daedalus.  But the evil king Minos locked him and his son in the maze with the bullhead monster-Minotaur.  Daedalus built two pairs of bronze wings with wax on it, and his son and him both escaped from the Labyrinth. But because his son loves the feeling of flying, he flew into the sun, his wax melted, and he fell into the sea.  After two million years, Percy and his friends continued the story.  Daedalus hid into the maze and made bodies for him to survive for two million years.  Once Percy accidently fell into one of the entrances to the Labyrinth, he explored in it and discovered the death of the Nature God Pan, the sadness of Calypso, the life of Daedalus, and the reborn of the evil Titan Lord Kronos.  He also found out the World War III has finally started.  The Battle Of The Labyrinth tells us of the hero’s and God’s sadness, pain and anger.

Rick Riordan is a great writer. Since he knows the way in which a kid thinks, his books taught us Greek stories and how a kid saved the world with Gods and friends helping.  Rick Riordan’s books make my life different.  He teaches you that on this world, nothing is impossible, only if you believe in it, and then it’ll come to you.

Invention Convention

During This month, we were working on the Invention Convention Project.  Every one needs to invent something useful and makes life better.  On the due day, every body brought thousands of weird inventions to school, some were pencil cases, gloves and trampolines.  We did voting and presentations, luckily, 12 out of 18 people vote for me and I become the winner in class.  We did a show and invented our parents.  After judging, Cooper the Lunch Box won the first price and he got a free ticket to the Shanghai Museum.  I think I should win the first place of the competition.  Although I don’t think this is nice to say but I still think a little unfair of this competition.  One is that some parents might not know the rules, and another is that I think it is better if we can have a voting between the audience.  I think I should win the first price is because I did all the steps by myself.  I only ask my cousin to tell me my steps.  If I have a chance, I would like to do this again.  It is really fun when you are making little things.

Things Around Me

Thomas Edison Created A New World

I’m very sorry because of homework, there has been a long time I didn’t write a single post on my blog. Here is an essay about Thomas Edison, which I think is pretty good. Hope you enjoy it!

Thomas Edison was a famous American Inventor and businessman. He invented thousands of wonderful things, some of which have changed people’s life forever. His greatest inventions were the phonograph, the motion picture and the light bulb. He was the forth most prolific inventor in the world.

Thomas, the youngest of seven children, was born in a poor family. His mother took him out of school and taught him at home when a teacher called him an “Addled”. “My mother was the making of me. She was so true, so sure of me;” Thomas said when a reporter asked him,” and I felt I had something to live for, someone I must not disappoint.” Thomas studied hard at home. At the age of eight, Thomas Edison began losing his hearing; at the age of twelve, Thomas almost couldn’t hear anything! He began selling candies and newspaper on train when his family was forced to move to Port Huron, Michigan. When Thomas began selling and printing other papers, he found his talent. This made him a businessman, associating with fourteen companies. At the age of nineteen, he became a telegrapher when he saved a three-years-old child on the railroad when a train was about to crunch him. His father taught him telegraph as reward. At the age of twenty-two, Thomas married with Mary Stilwell and they had three children, Marion, Thomas and William. Thirteen years later, Thomas married with Mina Miller when Mary died by accident, and they had another three children, Madeleine, Charles and Theodore. Thomas began his career as an inventor in New Jersey.

At first, Thomas tried improving on telegraph and telephone. This made him a big sale of $10,000, which equals $202,000 USD now. He built a research lab using the money and found some friends who offered to help him on the inventions. His most famous invention in those early years was the phonograph. A kind of machine that records sounds and plays it. It uses a hole to record the sound to a disk and spins the disk so it can play the sound wave out. Thomas once has showed this to the people in town in Menlo Park, he played “Marry Has A Little Lamb”. The people were impressed, and called him “The Wizard Of Menlo Park”. The name of Thomas Edison first time came to the world.

After the huge success, Thomas tried perfecting the phonograph. His partner gave him a brilliant idea: If the phonograph already has its ears and mouth, why don’t you make it the eyes. The idea helped Thomas on his way in the future. He thought of it, and began working on his new invention, the Edison Motion Picture. Like the camera in our days, the motion picture films everything it “saw”. Thomas Edison once showed a company his new invention, he showed them a film of him trying to sneeze. The company bought the Motion Picture in a huge price, and after many years, the first TV show has come to the world.

Thomas Edison’s biggest succeed was the light bulb. Back in old time, people used candles and lamps to light the room. But before light bulb was invented, people fired wax instead. This caused a lot of troubles, houses always got on fire in America every week. Then a lot of people asked for some thing that can light the room instead of using fire. In 1878, Thomas created the Edison Electric Light Company. They began studying on the light bulb. Before Thomas had started working, some people actually “invented” the light bulb, but when they light it, it wouldn’t even shine more than a second. Thomas improved this 50 years old invention, he send his workers around the world and searched for materials. He tried more than one thousand more types of materials, working almost all day and night. After one and half year of hard working, Thomas used carbon in the light bulb, which for the first time burned up to 13 hours! This made Thomas very excited, he quickly talked to fifty more companies. On December 1879, the first perfect light bulb was presented to the world, “Look at this glowing light. Imagine, one day, our world will be full of light bulbs. And that day soon will become true.” Thomas Edison said to the people when they came celebration.

Thomas Edison’s dream really became true. Now, we can see light bulbs everywhere, in our home, on the streets, and in the park. Every time when you see a light bulb shining in the dark, a television playing shows, even listening to a radio playing music, you should appreciate Thomas Edison, because without him, our world will be completely different.

You Should Be Careful During Exercise

This is an essay telling you that exercise is very dangerous. We wrote this last year in writer’s workshop. Mrs. Power made us choose our topic and I chose “We Should Be Careful During Exercise”. I choose to write this is because last week I hurt my finger when doing sports. Mrs.Power told us it’s good to have personal experience when writing essays, so we can truly feel others feelings and to help you write. I also used “Audioboo” to record it for you to listen. Enjoy!

Many people love exercise. Exercise is healthy and makes you strong. But I think, exercise still has its dangerous side. A little carelessness might change your life, you would feel pain, and feel angry with yourself by the things you have done. That’s why you should be careful during exercise. Although sports are dangerous, you still need exercise to keep your body working.

The first point is you have to protect yourself. Before doing anything, you have to keep yourself safe. You need to be responsible for yourself and find the right way to do things. For example, last week I was doing the weights with barbell, because it was too heavy for me to lift, I dropped it. When it bounced back against the floor, I tried to pick it up. But the barbell hit my finger, and my fingernail peeled off. That was very dangerous, the weight with barbell is a sport only for people who can handle it. If you get hurt, it’s not only pain, also a waste of time. You might miss your lessons, your exercise, and your happiness. So you really need to be careful and protect yourself.

The second point is you have to protect the others. When you have your responsibility to protect yourself, you try to warn the others. People should help each other, and you need to warn them when they are in danger. When I was a child, I was playing with my friends on the slide. I was too excited on playing, which I accidently fell off the slide. At that very moment, my classmate Danny came running as fast as he could, and used all his strength to catch me. I was very thankful, and we made very good friends. Having a friend or an adult watching you when you are doing exercise is very helpful. They can help you when you are in danger.

The last point is danger is everywhere. Even a strong, careful person might get hurt anytime. A soccer ball might hurt your face; a pair of shoelaces might trip you over; even swimming might make you suffocate. Danger is all around us, but you can use your knowledge to keep it from happening. You can dodge a dog from biting you; you can tie your shoelaces from tripping over; you can learn to swim from suffocating. There are things you can control and also things you cannot control. You need to know what’s dangerous. You do exercise with your brain. Think of it before you do any movement, and make sure you can handle it.

Not only exercise, everything has its dangerous side. You always need to remember to be careful and be responsible for yourself and for others. Although exercise sometimes looks like a very dangerous thing, you still can’t do with out it. Keeping those points in mind, you can enjoy a safer, more wonderful life.

Home Of The Brave

civil war The word “Brave” is very powerful. A person who wants to be brave should have strong and fearless heart. Katherine Applegate taught us what is called brave.

During this month, the whole fifth grade were studying a book <<Home Of The Brave>>. The main character Kek’s life was very miserable. He is a boy who lived in Sultan. The civilwar had ruined his life, he saw his father and brother be killed by the soldiers, and his mother missing. Mrs. Power even shed tears when she was reading this to us. Kek was found by the refugee camp and he lived with his cousin Gunwa in America. America although is safe from the civilwar but he still didn’t find his freedom which he wanted. And he was worried about his mother. “Kek finds sun when the sky is dark,” his aunt said. Living in America, Kek surely had begun finding his happinness which he had lost a long time ago.

I felt very sorry for Kek and those children who had lost their parents. They once had a wonderful life with friends and their families. But one day they found out everything had vanished, and all they had were pains.

October 31th, we had our wonderful Holloween. I saw smurfs, devils, witches, cats and wizards everywhere. I weared like a evil, handing a sickle with a trident on the other side. Wearing a black hooded cloak, and a pair of black gloves. And the most scariest, a bloody broken hand, hiding under the cloak. Mrs. Power dressed like the good witch in the movie ( Wizard Of Oz), our class room decorated like a huanted house. Once I shake my “broken hand” to my classmate Alex Liu, I let him pull my hand. And then a bloody hand fell on the ground, with him screaming. Later we had a “Fashion Show”, the whole elementary school came to the Main Theatre. We walked arround and took some photos, it is really fun. I wish we can have festivals oftenly, it makes a lot of happiness.Alex Zhang

Migration Photos

bp30 This is my favourite picture which I’ve found in It is a picture of a migration in China. Some people know, in China, most of the people that is out of their hometown must go back when ever they’re doing during the Spring Festival(December 30th to January 3rd) . This is very important to the Chinese. But, that means a very big migration. Can you imagine, more than 1 billion people moving in the same time, that must be a spectacular scenary. My mom said when she was small, she was on a train during the Spring Festival. she wanted to go to the washroom, but she could’nt, there were too many people, It was even so hard to move her head, so she waited until the train stopped. Just like the picture above, funny but scary. It must be very tired to migrate, but when you see parents, relatives and friends coming to welcome you, sending you red evelopes, you maybe will smile easily, and think: Home, nice home.

Healthy Meal

The beginning was a hard time. To cook a meal, first I need to decide what to make. I checked the internet, I typed “food”, and it popped up more than 3,000,000 websites.”This isn’t a good idea.” I sighed, I slide back the chair, watching the roof, thinking of what other things I could make. “Sandwiches, sushi, noodles, ice-cream, what can I make.” I flipped my finger nails and thought. “Maybe I should make sushi, but the seaweed is very hard to buy. I only have rice.” I sat there, closed my eyes and waited, waiting for something to pop up into my mind. And then it really came, when I was thinking of the farm movie Mom watched yesterday, what did the family eat at dinner? “Fried rice!” I cried, “Yes, I am going to make fried rice. Tonight, is time to see my cooking skills.”

. . .

“Rice?” I asked.”Check.” My mom repeated.”Oil?” “Check.” “Carrots?” “Check.” “Shallots?” “Check.” “Ham?” “Check.””Salt?” “Check.” “Mushrooms?” “Check.” As you see, my mother and I were checking our ingredients! Now it’s time, I thought. “Did you wash your hands?” My mom asked me.”Yes.” “Do you remember how to cook?” “Yes.” I replied. “Are you ready?” I smiled to her,”I’m always ready.”

. . .

“Watch out, like this, right.”Grandpa was teaching me how to use a knife. He holded my wrist, slowly put the knife on the shallot, suddenly, he raised the knife, and cutted through the shallot, all this came in a blink of a eye. “You see, this is very easy.” Slowly, I tried to act like him, but I always need at least 5 times to cut 1 piece of shallot. It is always the hardest in the beginning, I always tried to comfort myself by saying this.

. . .

Cooking was more harder than how I thought of. After I cutted everything into small squares, it is time to cook. First, I needed to cook the rice, I put the rice in the Rice Maker. During cooking, I poured the oil in the pot, and then heated it. After 5 minutes, I put some ham, carrots and mushrooms in the oil. Grandpa helped me on cooking. After he’s finshed, I came into the kitchen, I saw the ham, mushrooms and carrot seems like haven’t had any changes, the only thing that changed is that all of the oil disappeared. “The rice is OK now.” he called me. I opened the Rice Maker, a hot wave striked into my eyes. I used a spoon to scoop up most of the rice into a bowl. And than I put the rice into the pot, and waited for Grandpa to cook. At last, I put some shallots in the pot, and sat down beside the table and–wait.

. . .

“Now lets see your score.” Dad said. He reached for his chopsticks, and put that yellow rice in his mouth. When he was chewing and was going to say something, my cousin called out,” This tastes awsome!” “This is wonderful” “I’m proud of you , Alex” At that time, although my legs felt ache, my arms felt strengthless, but I felt good, so I don’t care about that. And another good news is– because I did this project so perfect, my mom decided to take me to Hongkong during the National Day Break. Horray!

Founder’s Day

(Please watch this Founder\’s Daybefore you read the paragraph)100 years ago, Shanghai American School only had 38 students, but now we have more than 1000 students, that is quite a big change. 100 years, a glory history, a great past, to commemorate the day we started, we had founder’s day. On Founder’s Day, everyone weared like 100 years ago, someone weared like a shiperd, someone weared like Harry Potter, someone even weared like a witch, everyone looked so funny. I weared like a businessman, I had a black and yellow tie, a formal suit and trousers, and a pair of leaser shoes. Mrs Power sent us a bag of sweet popcorn and some cookies. But something bad happened, at Recess, I was playing soccer, I spred my legs to block the ball, but the crotch part dihscened, so I only could change my trousers to my pants I brought. And Mrs Power tied my tie so tight, I can’t take it off, a teacher helped me, but she didn’t know how to take the tie off too. She pulled and pulled and pulled, until she broke the tie, and found the zipper that was covered under the cloth. At the end of the day, we listened to a speach of the history of Shanghai Amercan School, heard the other school songs we had before, and watched a Dragon Dance. Shanghai American School, always a beginning.Alex Zhang

Nutrition Project

“This week’s homework is to make a Nutrition Project.” Mrs Power said,”I’ll give you a list and write the food you eat this week.” After school, I was on my way home, holding the Nutrition paper in my hand.” It is a easy homework, but I have to remember every thing I have eat.” I said to myself. It writes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack and exercise. I tried to remember what I had ate today, even I forgot that I had past my house door. I worked hard on it, try to write down how many bowl of rice I had ate, how many minutes I had ran. But when I had give Mrs Power the project, she said I don’t have any decoration. So I have to–do it again– after that I know what ever I do, I have to try my best,or I need to do it again and again.

Woman on Mount Everest

This came as a complete surprise to me, what I’m going to meet is a team that had climbed MT. Everest for 5 times. Our class came to the big gym, we sat down and listened to the speech. And clapping sounds and exclamation came out without stopping. They said how hard the training was, how dangerous the avalanche was, how funny the photos were, how splendid the scenery of the peak was. They have patient, solid, and good climbing skills. They are the strongest woman I’ve never seen.Alex Zhang

Today, we listened to a speach of Antarctica. One of the adventure team members Sophie told us the whole story. Antarctica is the world’s coldest, windiest, and driest place. The team defeated the cold, the ice, and the sea sick to take those most wonderful photos. Sophie introduced the animals living there. The peiguins were the most popular animals, also the most popular victim. They were cute, but some animals liked to hunt for them, too. They were also very curious. When the team arrived, the chicks came to poke their clothes and hands. They played with each and seemed to not notice the team.

When the team was riding the speed boat, they saw some seals lying on the floating ice. They have to turn off their engines to not disdurb them. They were round and fat, and also good hunters. Once they saw some peigiuns jumping off a floating ice. A seal suddenly popped out the water and took a deep bite, in seconds, the peiguin turned into peaces. The blood colored the water. Some cute white baby seals lied on the ice, their deep dark eyes blinked at them.

We noticed that most parts of Antarctica had melted. Soon, the sea level well rise up, and will broke the food chain and flood the land. Sophie told us to use less water and eletric. She told us we can’t give hopes on our parents, we have to start on our own, protect the nature and world.

About Me

My Goal

To Mom and Dad,

I am having a good time in SAS. I made a lot of friends here, and my English improved a lot. Mrs.Power is very kind to us, she always rewards us coffee pasts, lunch cards. But I know I can do more than what I am having. My goal for this year is to study as hard as I can, and try to get at least 90% in the final test, and I promise. So I wish you can help me. Just like leave me some math homework, or train me to be a fast writer. I will make my weekend focus on studying. I believe soon I will catch up with the others, or even better. This is all I want to say. and at last, thank you!

My Hopes And Dreams For 5th Grade

Dear readers,

nice to meet you. It’s my first time in SAS,and now I’m 5th grade. I love this wonderful place, and I enjoy the lessons. Well, about my hope, of course is to have a good score in the new school year. About my dreams, um, my parents want me to try for the swimming team, because they want me to get some exercises. I don’t really care about that. Yesterday I had tried it, it was hard, but I felt good. I don’t know if I can get in, but I have already tried my best. I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I know that I have to try my best to do the business beside me, I really look forward to 5th grade.

My Migration Trail

Alex Z's timeline pd This post is about my”Migration Trail”. It shows a lot of my information. I was born in China Sichuan. At 2005, I moved to Canada to learn English. After studying for 2 years, My dad said my Chinese changed to my second language. So I came back to China Shanghai. 4 years later, my Chinese finally improved, but my English weakened again. So I came to Shanghai American School. What a sad story!

Poetry is a very popular kind of writing style.  We write paragraphs in another way, to make the readers can feel the deep meanings in a poem.  Poetry has rhthme, Personification, metaphor, simile, onomatopoeia, and so on.  There are thousands of things poetry can have.  And also lots of ways to write poems, Haiku, Cinquain, Drama.

Here at Z’s Legend, you can find the famous poems and my own poems.  You’ll find a lot of surprises here.  And also I’m welcomed to comments.  Hope you enjoy!

Food On The Plate

If I could run,

If I could talk,

If I could have a better life.

If I was a man,

If I was a tree,

If I were the sky and the sea.

I once ran in fear,

I once ran in pain,

I once had a life,

Which ended up with a shot.

Now I am on a table,

Now I am on a plate,

Now I am on a fork.

It is getting darker,

It is getting hot,

Now I know what will happen,

I will be crunched with a stinky mouth.

At the last of my life,

I would like to say,

If you are the food,

And I am the man,

I would stop and think,

The food on the plate’s pain.

Point Of View

Our Body’s Point Of View

When you laugh and dance,

When you jump and run,

When the world’s so bright,

I only cry.

I listen to your commands,

I feel your pain,

I don’t have freedom,

what a unfair life!

A Mat’s Point Of View

When a bell rings,

When the children run in,

When they laugh and sing,

I only have pain and sadness.

They step on me,

They jump on me,

They kick me over.

Can you imagine,

The feelings of a poorly mat.

The Apple’s point of view

I am green when it is spring,

I am red when it is fall,

I get cut down when the new year comes,

I die when you see me and buy me.

I get crunched with your teeth,

I get split out with my seeds.

I will grow threw the ground again,

And my life term begins again.

All The World’s An Apple tree

“All The World’s a stage” by William Shakespeare

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. As, first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms.
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper’d pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.shakespeare

William Shakespeare(1564~1616) is the greatest English writer in 15th century and pre-eminent dramastict. He wrote this poem”All The World’s A Stage” is because he wants to tell us how is a man in 15th century like. He think life is like a play which has seven stages: Infant, school boy, lovers, soldier, justice, second chidishness and mere oblivion. Mrs.Power told us to label out the 7 stages of our life, and then using William Shakespeare’s style to write our own poem about our life.  So I labeled out:0~12(child), 13~24(tenant), 25~36(business), 37~48(family),49~60(middle age),61~72(retire), 73~death(elderly).  By using those points, I wrote my poem “All The World’s An Apple Tree”.

All the world’s an apple tree,

And all the men and women are the apples.

They grow themselves and lay their seeds.

And one seed starts somewhere digging through the ground.

His growing has being seven phases.

First, sprouting,

Laughing and crawling in the mother’s arms.

Then growing higher.

A hand with books and a hand with love.

Then the branches.

Again hearing children’s laughter after many years.

Some little apples can be seen.

White shiny hair falls with the snow.

The children begin to eat the big, red apples.

Stopping working and lies down in the shade.

The roots begin to break, finally, The apple tree falls to the ground.

And so does he, closing his eyes, and resting in peace, forever.

Other Poetry

Don’t hate me,
because I am white.
Don’t hate me,
because of my skin color.
Hate me,
for my actions.
But don’t hate me,
for the way I look.
Judge for me for my disposition,
not for my complexion.Our society,
is filled with lots inequality.
Be sure it’s about personality,
instead of inequality.
Don’t be the one to practice
segregation and discrimination.
Be the one to practice
a celebration of life.
All men are created equal
That was true for all people

By Marin Luther King Jr

When I see birches bend to left and right
Across the lines of straighter darker trees,
I like to think some boy's been swinging them.
But swinging doesn't bend them down to stay
As ice-storms do. Often you must have seen them
Loaded with ice a sunny winter morning
After a rain. They click upon themselves
As the breeze rises, and turn many-colored
As the stir cracks and crazes their enamel.
Soon the sun's warmth makes them shed crystal shells
Shattering and avalanching on the snow-crust--
Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away
You'd think the inner dome of heaven had fallen.
They are dragged to the withered bracken by the load,
And they seem not to break; though once they are bowed
So low for long, they never right themselves:
You may see their trunks arching in the woods
Years afterwards, trailing their leaves on the ground
Like girls on hands and knees that throw their hair
Before them over their heads to dry in the sun.
But I was going to say when Truth broke in
With all her matter-of-fact about the ice-storm
I should prefer to have some boy bend them
As he went out and in to fetch the cows--
Some boy too far from town to learn baseball,
Whose only play was what he found himself,
Summer or winter, and could play alone.
One by one he subdued his father's trees
By riding them down over and over again
Until he took the stiffness out of them,
And not one but hung limp, not one was left
For him to conquer. He learned all there was
To learn about not launching out too soon
And so not carrying the tree away
Clear to the ground. He always kept his poise
To the top branches, climbing carefully
With the same pains you use to fill a cup
Up to the brim, and even above the brim.
Then he flung outward, feet first, with a swish,
Kicking his way down through the air to the ground.
So was I once myself a swinger of birches.
And so I dream of going back to be.
It's when I'm weary of considerations,
And life is too much like a pathless wood
Where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs
Broken across it, and one eye is weeping
From a twig's having lashed across it open.
I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth's the right place for love:
I don't know where it's likely to go better.
I'd like to go by climbing a birch tree,
And climb black branches up a snow-white trunk
Toward heaven, till the tree could bear no more,
But dipped its top and set me down again.
That would be good both going and coming back.
One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.
