1. Answer: No, a square is not a rectangle, a square has to have 4 congruent sides, a rectangle does not.
2. Answer: No, a rectangle needs 4 right angles but a parallelogram does not.
3. Answer: Yes, a rectangle is a parallelogram with 4 right angles and a square also has those qualities.
4. Answer: No, a parallelogram does not have 4 right angles and that is what a rectangle needs.

# Fire Keeps on Burning No Matter What the Earth, Wind, or Water Does!

This is the Core class speed chart. As you can see Fire Class has the fastest metres per seconds. Water has the lowest. All the classes have around 5 or 6 metres per seconds. To find the class average speed we had to calculate  the average time we found it by adding up everyone average speed and dividing it by 6. Then to find the average time we divided 50 by that number, because we ran 50 metres. If we wanted the runners to run faster we could of ran on a less windy day and also made all of the runners equal in what they did to make it fair. If we possibly changed some people for another would we run faster? Or maybe if we ran on a wednsday it would be better. So many questions left un answered….

The reason we did this experiment is because, we wanted to see which class had the fastest average speed. We found out that all the runners were slightly close in the metres per second, but fire did win. Our hypotheses was if  Fire FKF practices every science class then they will win. It was proven half correct because we only practiced once but fire did end up winning.

Discuss wether all squares are similar…………………………………………………………………

A new word we learned in class today was similar. Similar means that 2 geometric shapes are close in proportion.

With a square all the sides have to be equal, if I had a square that is 2in” by 2in” and another 12in” by 12in” the proportion is 2/2=12/12 if you do cross multiplication they will both be the same meaning they are similar.

Why is 7:3 different from 3:7?

Well they are both ratios and can be written also like 3/7 and 7/3 which is a fractional version so you can divide. When you devide these 2 you get different answers so the ratios are different as well. If you divide 3 by 7 you get an answer around 0.42. But if you divide 7 by 3 you get an answer around 2.33 and so on. Therefore they are different ratios.

Question: Tell me why c/10=70 will be greater or less than 70. Explain.

Answer, and Explanation: It will be greater than 70 because, when you do a division problem in algebra it is like checking your work for a division problem, you have to do the opposite symbol. So if we pretend we are checking our work we have to multiply 10 by 70 to get the answer for c.

Question: Explain why 45+n is an algebraic expression.

Answer: Meaning of algebraic expression is, that an algebraic expression must have one variable in the expression, since 45+n has a variable in it it is an ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION!!!

Question: Will the difference between 2 negative numbers ever be positive?

Explanation: Because when 2 negative numbers are subtracted by each other they will only become less negative. When you have a negative number subtracting a smaller negative number  when it gets less negative it means it will get more positive.

Examples:                       ~ -2-[-3]= +1

~ -4-[-5]= +1

~ -7-[-10]= +3

# May the magnetic force be with you

In science we are learning about electricity and magnetism, to start it off we used something called a gizmo to get the visual perspective of the magnetic feild. Then we did it for real!

When the magnets repel the iron filings are pushing away from the magnets causing a space in the middle of each magnet. They do this because the same poles are against each other. In the one where the magnets are attracted to each other the iron filings are  pointing towards each other so it is very visual that they are attracting. They attract because there are opposite poles towards each other. The filings may not look like it but from a close up view the pictures are both forming shapes. In the picture that they are repelling around each magnet the fillings are lightly drawing a circle. And in the attracting photo it looks like a tornado is forming in the middle of both bar magnets.When we did the Gizmos in class I really thought the outcome of our photos against the Gizmos photos are very similar, but we used less filings and was a bit more realistic. It is a good feeling when the iron filings make the correct shape, and it is very cool how the iron filings get magnetized. When the South pole is against another South pole it makes an odd looking shape, same with the North pole against the South pole because they are attracting not repelling . When the opposite poles in the gizmo were against each other they looked like a figure 8.

Question: Explain why any mixed number when written as a fraction will be improper…

Explanation: Well that is hard to explain… Lets take a note from Profesor Power!

Example type thing! Well the numerator will be bigger than the denominator because the whole number has to go into the numerator. For example 3 3/5 is a mixed number to get it into a improper fraction you have to times the whole number with the denominator then add the numerator which will give you 18 and you keep the denominator and it will give you 18 over 5.

The question: If a number  is divisible by 4 and 9 what other numbers is it divisible by?

The explanation: Because, it should also contain numbers that are in that number for example 2 goes into 4 therefore 2 should be divisible by it to. For another example 3 goes into 9 therefore it should also be a divisor.
